Monolith Lays of 80

SOE Offers 25 Jobs

The Seattle Times confirms reports that Monolith employees have been laid off after The Matrix Online was dumped by WBIE. The Times also reports that of the 80 employees to be laid off, 25 of them have already been offered jobs at Sony Online Entertainment, a mere five miles from Monolith, to continue development on The Matrix Online.

Monolith has attributed most of the layoffs to their decision to exit the MMO market, making many jobs such as customer support over staffed or simply obsolete. Work on the PC shooter, F.E.A.R. and Xbox 360 title Condemned: Criminal Origins have continued, although whether the games remain on schedule is unknown.
