IconPackager 3 is here!

Change your Windows icons all at once!

Stardock has released IconPackager 3.  IconPackager is a program that enables users to change nearly all of their Windows icons in one swoop by applying "packages" of icons.  While Windows has long had the ability to change selected icons via "themes", until IconPackager came along, there was no way to change the hundreds of icons that exist throughout Microsoft Windows.  For example, IconPackager can change the icons that represent different file types (.JPG, .DOC, .PSD), icons for individual programs, control panel icons, Start menu icons, and much more.

There are hundreds of icon packages available freely for download on websites such as WinCustomize.com, deviantART.com, SkinBase.org, and elsewhere.

IconPackager 3 adds support for a host of icons found in Windows XP / Windows XP SP2 and for the new icons in the file dialog.  In addition, IconPackager 3 has made it much easier to create icon packages with the new "package builder" feature which enables icon designers to see a sheet of all the common icons found on Windows in a single page and the ability to change those icons with a simple drag and drop.

IconPackager is a free download. An enhanced registered version is also available on its own or as part of Stardock's Object Desktop suite of desktop enhancement utilities.  The enhanced version allows users to change any icon on Windows (including programs) right from its properties dialog.  Version 3 also has better integration with IconDeveloper, a program that makes it easy to create new icons.

Wait... that means no telemarketers for at least 3 days!

It installs...but when it runs and pops up its window, the window promptly goes away...sigh.

Thanks for the information on the new release. Should it be installed over the older installed version? I'm using 2.5 right now and worried about losing my installed icon packages.

I have the same problem as Citizen Excalpius It does not stay open it starts to open then goes away before I could make any changes.

I'm getting the same problem as SS Goku and Excalpius. IP opens for a few seconds...then shuts down.

Well, this sucks...Icon Packager is now completely SNAFU'd on my computer. This is what I get when I launch the program now:

It's kind of hard to change icon packages when you can't see anything.

I've also experienced the window closing unexpectedly. And to top it off, when I did Print Screen and opened up Photoshop with the IP window still open, it completely froze up my computer. It was a major struggle to get things closed and reboot.

So, this isn't a good upgrade for me...any chance for me to go back to 2.5 until the bugs are worked out?

Here's an update on my situation. I moved all my themes to a different folder, leaving only Onyx and Utopia. IconPackager loaded fine, I'm going to keep trying and find out which theme was causing my problems...

yes it looks like some themes are buffer overflowing the browser. Move em all out and then move the one(s) you actually use back in to narrow it down to the culprit.

Ok, so I narrowed down my list of about 139 themes, and the only one to cause a problem was the 'BlueCurve' icon set. Once that was removed, all was well.

Well the package builder completely wrecked the package I was building. The drag-and-drop interface in the main window resulted in some of the filetype icons being displayed as blank (in the window). The filetype icons that weren't blank didn't get applied and it seems to ignore the 'don't restore icons when applying new package' setting. There still isn't a 'new package' item under the 'File' menu: as before its less than obvious how to create a new package. Finally the 'Save' item under the 'File' menu still asks you if you want to overwrite the package.

Is anyone else getting the blank screen like I am?

Hey, how about adding a comment somewhere that the "public/free" download is limited not only in functionality, but also for 30 days?
Also, as a long-time user of IP, the "improvements" seem pretty minor. Maybe IP 2.6, certainly not 3.

~Well..my problems seem totally different from the rest. I am unable to download any new Icon packages since installing version 2.99....I decided to update to 3.0 hoping it would fix it. Nope.....still get same error messageafter I download any of the new packages when I go to unzip them it says " Error: Failed to load the OD.Zip.dll ..then it says " Please reinstall the package " I have reinstalled several different IP ...same message. I have reinstalled the Iconpackager 3 times. Same thing..and when I close that box..it will pop up another saying the location in temp files where it downloaded to " the package contained no files " Please try again with a different package." But..I have tried all the newer ones..nothing will apply.
Other than that..works great......

Weird, I've seemed to fix things too, but it's still kind of bizarre...since 2 people had trouble with bluecurve, I took it out of the folder last night, and nothing happened. Well, I just tried it again, and it did seem to fix the crashing window problem. But I still had a blank screen. I started clicking on things and ended up clicking on the Icon Explorer window. Icon Explorer loaded, and voila, the Icon Packager screen wasn't blank anymore, I could now see all my packages. Weird, weird, weird, but at least I've found out how to make it work.

I'm not having that problem.

There should an updated version going up very shortly to address the crashing or problems on startup those users are having due to certain themes.

Fairyy~, where did you download and install IconPackager from?

Here is the problem I am having. Because I have recolored a lot of my Iconpackages and when I saved them they would only let me save them under the original name. So, I had maybe 5 different Utopia Canvas files -- all different colors. So when I downloaded this new version of IP; I moved all my theme folders out to another folder so I wouldn't lose them; then after I downloaded 3.00 I moved them back. The problem is only ONE file of the five with the same names show up. Not only that the icons I had "changed" reverted back to the Windows default icons!!! It's like I have to start all over again to rebuild my files! Has anyone had this problem.

Just want to add that I've had 3.0 since it was actually released on 6/8 according to SDC. Anyway it works just fine here.
