Halo is going Hollywood, possibly. As previously reported Microsoft had been shopping around a Halo script last week. Along with the script came some hefty demands from Microsoft including a budget of no less than $75 million and creative control. CNN/Money now reports that a tentative deal has been agreed to by Microsoft, Universal and Fox under reduced financial terms. But don't get to happy over seeing Master Chief soon, the creative control issues still may cause an issue.
The deal says that Microsoft will get $5 million for Halo and 10 percent of the first-dollar box-office gross receipts. Universal would oversee production and get domestic distribution rights, Fox would nab the foreign rights and have its say in production. The deal is a risky one even for such a popular franchise. Only one video game adaptation has made more than $100 million, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, and she carries some special assets that the Master Chief never will.
