THROW THE BUM OUT

THROW THE BUM OUT

I have a friend who owns a small real estate management company. Today he and his buddies had some fun evicting a deadbeat. The event had been anxiously awaited for months. They went to the wet grass of the courtyard of one of their buildings at 6 a.m. this morning. Then the big men came, with the sheriff in tow.

This freeloader who had been living rent-free for five months was getting all his stuff thrown into boxes and, along with all his furniture, dragged out to the sidewalk, where, legally, we had to leave it for 24 hours before anyone could haul it away. Unfortunately, for the deadbeat, he wasn't home to take care of his belongings and the neighborhood picked him clean in less than an hour. It was sweet revenge for my friend and the landlord.

About noon today, the slob came to the office asking for his things. And it was beautiful! My friend told the bum that all his stuff was on the sidewalk in front of the building. Then he gave him the best I feel your pain bullshit he could. The freeloader told him there is a God up there. My friend said, that's right so you better be afraid!

The only part of the whole eviction that was disappointing was that the neighbors took all the stuff before we legally could. I could have used the big wooden table he had. What a shame. I know some liberal, democrat, ass hole, professional sympathizer, will ask me why I get such pleasure out of witnessing the misfortune of someone who is so obviously poor.

I forgot to tell you about the thousands of dollars of clothes and the big-screen television that he had. He went out to gambling casinos every night. He bought clothes and drugs rather than paying the rent that he agreed to pay when he moved in. He made fun of them when they posted the eviction notice. And he had roommates paying him rent to sublet a room in his apartment, which goes against the lease agreement he signed with my friend. He not only deserved to be kicked out, but also to have his stuff stolen by the neighborhood.

I have no shame in reveling in the misfortune of bad people.

if jesus is reading this, i gotta suggestion for judgement day: use the 'judge joe brown' show as a model for the proceedings. there's a cute lil intro voiceover, part of which goes like this:

vo (defendent): i'm not ashamed...

vo (brown): well you should be.

could be easily adapted to your production and quickly assembled assuming yall are still taping everything people think and say.

ps. MZ WAHINE IS WAY TOO FUNNY AND DESERVES SOME SORTA EXTRA BLESSING FOR HAVING REMEMBERED TO REPLY USING U/C CHARACTERS.

i was only planning to take the table when it was legal to do so

While it was legal for the landlord to set his belongs out, it is NOT legal to simply come by and snatch up his belongs as if it were a yard sale.

While the opportunity did exist for others to peruse his belongs and take whatever happened to catch their eye, it did not make it any less stealing. It was still his stuff, just as if it were in his home, locked up.

If a store was unloading boxes of electronics and for one reason or another left the boxes unattended for the time, would it be OK to come by and take them? People would, no doubt, but it's still stealing, plain and simple.

i was only planning to take the table when it was legal to do so

Please explain to me how it was legal to do so at a certain time.

And that is where you'd be wrong. It's only legal for the landlord to do that! So since you ain't the landlord, it's still illegal.

KINGBEE...............I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH BEING GLEEEFUL WHEN BAD PEOPLE GET THEIR DUE. THE ONLY WAY TO MAKE BAD PEOPLE BE GOOD IS TO PUNISH THEM WHEN THEY DO EVIL THINGS.

I don't think think he fashioned himself as a morality at all. He merely expressed the happiness he felt at helping his friend rid himself of a thief.

If you read Marvin's post, he clearly presents himself as a Christian, and clearly presents a front of moral superiority. To identify him in this position would be as right as identifying me as a Libertarian, or you as a Mormon. Any regular readers know that part of our identity.

Please show me, though, any place in scripture (and for the purpose of this discussion, knowing your theological position, I will accept Mormon scriptures), that allows a person to take glee in another's misfortune. I would agree this person got what he deserved (his personal items were, in effect, bought with stolen money....having them stolen from him is just appropriate punishment, in my opinion), but I have HUGE issues with someone saying that they "revel" in it, while they claim to be Christian, as Marvin did.

Gideon, I understand what you mean, and I can't prove it, but I bet Jesus felt a lot better about being in the temple after he cast the money changers (basically cheats who forced those who entered the temple to make their animal sacrifice to pay huge amounts of money for said animals) from the temple. Agreed though, He wouldn't have gloated about it had He access to a blog in His day.

As for claiming to be Christian during his gloating. I don't remember being called to decide who is a Christian and who isn't. I'll leave that to the one who is qualified to make that call... Christ Himself.

To compare throwing out a leech of a tenant with throwing the money changers out of the temple is not a fitting analogy. What the money changers in the temple did went far beyond "simple" thievery. A more fair comparison would be Christ's responses to the tax collectors. Note that he DIDN'T attack these people; he asked them instead to return what they had stolen.

As for Marvin's being a Christian, I agree. God knows the heart better than I do. The point I was making is that Marvin CLAIMS to be a Christian (though, in fact, a person who writes articles about nude pics of their favorite celebrity and gloating over someone's misfortune, no matter how justified the action has a weak claim to living the Christian lifestyle, at best...but I digress). I am simply making my statement based on his claims, not based on anything I know or do not know to be fact. And the truth is, there's no reason for gloating, even when an evil person gets their dues.

Or, you could try to *HELP* the person.  If they had a gambling and drug problem, is "punishing" them by letting all their belongings get ripped off going to help them?  Punishing?  Punishing?  Are you really a Christian?

I have no issue with people being evicted.  However, I have a problem with the fact that they can get evicted when they are not home and their belongings aren't protected until they at least have the option to walk away from them.  Nobody knows these people.  You can assume that they live a certain way, but how do you know?  How do you know that they didn't have medical problems, or were working a couple jobs to try and make good on what was owed?  You don't know.  All you know is that you (Marvin) was happy to see somebody become homeless and have all their valuables stolen before you could get a free "prize".  Nice.

Part of being in business is taking on the risk of not being paid.  All business is like that.  Before you rent, you really should get an insurance policy that covers theft and lost profits.  But, most people don't do that, then they just get screwed out of money that is due.

That's their problem! They knew when it was coming both date and time! No matter how you look at it they could have made preperations! And the work theroy doesn't hold water Karma. By the time an evection comes around. NO amount of money can hold it off. And just an FYI, No insurance company makes/haves/underwrites an insurance policy to cover non-payment of renters!
