Bastard squirrels

My daugter took down the bird feeder from the tree and hung it on the shepherd's crook in the back yard this afternoon.

I looked out of the window half an hour later, and this is what I saw:

That's Fatso, our resident squirrel, hanging upside down from the feeder.  The first picture shows him grabbing seed, the second one shows him eating it.

He stayed there for a while, hanging like that....until I rapped on the window because he'd thrown half the seed out onto the grass.

I think that the squirrel on the ground under him is his chick - I don't know if squirrels pair-bond, but wherever Fatso is, this other one is - and we busted them getting it on under the carport yesterday.

Grr!  Squirrels!

Above are two links to supposedly squirrel free feeders. One seems to use a post and an inverted cone. The other seems to rely on thin metal holders so the squirrel cannto get a grip.

Squirrels are too damn smart...I don't think the "anti-squirrel" things work too well...if there's a way, a squirrel will find it.

My friend Kim has one of them, and she says that they work.  I'm not buying one this year, but I'll consider it next year....I was hoping that if I gave them chow they'd leave my trash alone, but that hasn't been the case.

Well...where to start....they've chewed holes in the garbage can, they strew trash everywhere, they chew car moulding and trim off, they chew air conditioning unit wires up, the gnaw their way through pretty much any and everything, and the number one cause of car fires on this base is squirrels getting up under the hood/shroud and gnawing through wires. Not to mention that they can carry rabies.

I didn't mind them until they dug up and ate all but 15 of the 100 or so crocus, tulip and daffodil bulbs I planted last fall.  That kind of irritated me.

...I don't think the "anti-squirrel" things work too well...if there's a way, a squirrel will find it.

Unfortunately, we are finding this.  We have tried cayenned pepper, mothballs, human hair and diluted pee....and none of it works.  They're impervious to all of it.

The squirrels at our old apartment used to torment our cats, They would come up and scratch at the window sending the cats full speed into the glass. (Actually pretty funny to watch). My Hubby loves watching squirrels, but I think they are nasty garbage eaters, similar to sea gulls.

Squirrells dont poop on your cars.  Birds do.  I like Sqirrels.  Besides, my cats find them good sport as well!

I dunno how I feel about them yet.  I mean, I like to watch them, but I don't like that they wreak havoc.

Hehe....I have a Henry Arms bolt action .22 ...but even if I were allowed to shoot on base, I couldn't kill them.

No, they don't poo on the car, they just eat parts of it, and then throw poo balls at me from the tree.  The dog goes nuts over them, but they're really not scared of him anymore...now that cat's a different matter.
