Yeah, but I still like the gross, off-putting factor of the yeast infection. I think that's what the meaning of the comparison is: your telling me about jesus is just as gross to me as my telling you about my bowels and vaginal issues.

I'm sorry you feel that way.

But then, it's not like you want to talk about your (presumably hypothetical) yeast infection, any more than I want to hear about it. I mean, would you agree to the opposite proposition, "you tell me about Jesus, and I'll tell you about my bowels and vaginal issues"? Probably not.

On the other hand, how comfortable would you be, keeping silent about the things that you believe are true and good, simply because they make some people feel uncomfortable? It's one thing to announce that you'll respond to things that make you uncomfortable by indulging in third-grade gross-out humor (which, I admit, is pretty fun). It's another thing entirely to agree to never speak out on any of the truths that you believe and hold dear, in exchange for never having to hear someone else speak out about the things they believe and hold dear but make you feel uncomfortable.

If I invite such conversation, then that's one thing. If such conversation is uninvited, that's another thing entirely.

If I want to hear about christianity, I'll ask about it. I'll initiate conversation. And, it's not so much a question of making me feel uncomfortable, it's more a question of not wanting to hear/talk about a philosophy I used to adhere to but subsequently rejected.

IRL I try to avoid discussions about religion and spirituality. It causes too many issues, and I usually end up with numerous people saying they feel sorry for me and will pray for my soul. I don't want anyone to feel sorry for me, and as for my soul...well, if they want to pray, then that's great.

I don't go around uninvited telling people how Buddhism has saved my life.....is it so much to ask that other people don't do the same to me?
