Score at the thrift store!

I've been on the lookout for a new kitchen table and chairs for a while now, so when I found a vintage table and 6 chairs at the thift store last week I was pretty stoked.

It's a vintage set; I think from the 60's?   The legs are brushed chrome and the table top is a grey and white formica.  The chairs are covered in a vinyl that has a funky green and grey pattern on it.  Some of the vinyl is split and has been repaired, but I'm planning to re-cover all of the seats and backs anyway so it doesn't really matter to me.  I'm thinking that red would work well with the chrome - it would give it a 'diner' feel.  I've found some fabric that I can hem up for curtains, and I can pick up some vintage style milkshake cups and other bits and pieces at the local flea market to put on the shelf I'm having D build to go above the window. I don't want to clutter it too much, I'm trying to keep it clean and streamlined.

I'm pretty happy with it...I'll be even happier with it by the time I'm done!

Wow Dharma! Congrats!
Awesome find I just told my son the other night that I've been wanting a formica top table in either grey or yellow too! We had one when I was a kid.
Had one back in the 70's and wish I'd kept it!!!
Your ideas for that diner look at fun and neat, and you're right about keeping it streamlined and clutter free.

"if you can't say anything good, don't say anything at all" -countless moms, grandmas, and aunts.

Sorry Dharma, guess I'm not into antiques like most people. Oh well, sorry.

Hey, if that's your thing, go for it. I'm sure the intrinsic value of it's function over form is well worth the price you paid. Heck, if I get a chance, I still play nintendo games. Oh, and Colecovision games, to boot.

Gratz, and enjoy fixing it up. I know that can be fun, so long as it's not too rough or damaging on yourself.

Great score Dharma. I really miss thrift store shopping. Here in NY, thrift store shopping is considered to be finding garments that cost between $50 and $100.

With a table like that, you're going to have uncontrollable urges to cook in a house dress and pearls. Maybe you can serve Wally and the Beav a hunk of cake on that table!! ;~D

Sorry, but oh the flashbacks!!!

No need to apologize, if you're not into them you're not into them...

Me too..

I've decided to go for red vinyl to cover them with, and I think a coca cola them overall would look really cool.  I'm actually very excited at the prospect of getting started on them!

What a nice find, Dharma. I used to have a very similar setting, except it was red formica with little silver flecks through it. The 4 chairs were covered in matching red vinyl with silver piping.

Cheers,

Maso
