Ship size

Hello,

I am new to these boards but have been checking for some time...I like the graphics and the game design looks great. However there is one thing i don't like at all (you may say it's not much) and could keep me from buying the game: The Galactic Sceen.... Space looks cool, planets are ok even if not great...but the ships are way too big. I have played all kind of space games (MOO, MOO2, Space Empires IV, Imperium Galactica, Pax Imperia, Reach for the stars...) and have never seen anything like that (does Stars! supernova have that also?). Please...resize the ships...make them smaller...much more smaller and then the game will be great!
I hope you're not offended, but i've already seen in other boards that people don't like that screen...
I really would like to buy this game...but this makes me stay on the fence...please help me fall on the right side.

I disagree with Pascal! The ships are small enough. The average size of the ships are just fine but, the scout ship is very tiny. If you were to make them any smaller, then people with poor eyesight would have a terrible time.

the scout ship is fine...but the other ships are bigger than the planets! :notsure:
The planets could be bigger, but then the galaxy would be too small. :(

I have no problem with the proportional sizes of the star systems (planets are not visible on this screen) and the ship sizes. After all, it is all representational. The space the game can cover is so vast that if a ship was to be presented in a size relative to the size of a star system the ship would not be presentable on the screen (it would be many magnatudes smaller than a pel). I think this is a visualization problem that many individuals may have to resolve in their own minds. Otherwise, I doubt that there will ever be a solution.

I suspect the same arguments could be applied to MOO2 (perhaps MOO3 once we get a chance to see it?) and CIV (I, II, and III).

I agree with you Jack,

It is not possible to have real proportions...however, i hoped that it could be possible to make ships slightly smaller...
I probably will resolve my mind if rest of the game is as good as it looks. ;)

Perhaps at a later stage in the game development (version 1.1 or later) a new set of ship images could be released with smaller ships for those who want them.

Pascal, would you also be looking for a smaller grid then, or just much smaller ships in the current bigger grid?

The grid is fine...(wouldn't mind if it was smaller though). Smaller ships in the current bigger grid would be enough to make me happy :)

Ya know what? i have been checking this homepage only for a week and last night i had a dream about this game...fun, no? In my dream the grid was smaller (everything else the same) and i really liked it...
Will we be able to zoom out?
