Ahh, the smell of new Converse

I got me some new Chucks today.

Red ones.  Red canvas Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars.  An American classic shoe.  The shoe that's been around since 1923 (according to the key tag that came with my pair).  The shoe that has been seen on the feet of rock and roll rebels, beatniks and cool cats, hippies and psychedelic acid freaks, stoners and punks, grungers, goths and emos.  The shoe that's never gone out of style, and to be honest I don't think it ever will go out of style.

The smell of them, that rubbery, earthy smell reminded me of when I was a child and I got my first pair of Chucks. I was 8, they were black with a white toe, and they were cool.

They're still cool.

Not to mention ugly.

Always kinda liked them myself. I also had a pair of the black ones.

No. They're uglier than a mud fence in a rain storm.

But they are pretty cool.

I was hoping you'd say that...I had imagined you as a Converse girl!  Ooh, purple....I like the hot pink ones too, but my absolute faves are the red ones.  I'm sure I'll get comments about clown shoes, but I don't really care.

They're uglier than a mud fence in a rain storm.

*sigh* to each his own, I guess......

Dharma, you know I love Chucks too. And just to weigh in the the beautiful/ugly argument, I agree with you. They look great on and feel even better.

I heard recently that Chucks are now owned by Nike. I've been trying to find out if this is true. I will be disappointed if this is the case as I have an objection to the way Nike to their business.
