Giving it Another Try....

After a five year hiatus, and a little persuasion from Dharma, I've decided to pick up my guitar again. Since I couldn't sleep for anything last night (many of you were on here to witness my points whoring article that was posted here late last night, which I have deleted since it started to get outta hand), I decided to get my old Alvarez accoustic out of it's case and tune it.

All I can say is OUCH!!!!! Since my callouses have disappeared, I have to build them up. My goal for the end of the week is to play a I, IV, V progression in the key of A without any hesitation. Wish me luck!

If anyone has any suggestions about getting back into playing, let me know!

Takes a while to toughen up the fingertips. LOL

Good for you!

The callouses will come back in no time, and until then...you can cheat and put a dab of superglue on your fingertips.  That creates an artificial callous of sorts.

I started out fooling around for about 15 mins at a time 4 or 5 times a day.  I got to a point where I was really frustrated because nothing was coming together, so I left it alone for a few days..and when I stopped trying, things just happened.  In the past 2 days I've figured out not only the chords for a few different songs, but I've started trying to pick as well....I'm practicing the riff for Hoobastank's ' the reason' today.

I'm so pleased you're playing again!!

Breaking it up into intervals sounds like the way to go! Glad to hear you are playing songs again so quickly! I'll have to try the super glue.....

go out buy some sand enough to fill a pail, pound your finger tips in sand about 10 minute 3 times a day, that will for sure toughen up your finger tips.

That sounds like a good idea, too. Too bad I don't have any kids to play in a sandbox with!
