How can I be seen so different here?

My friends and family are baffled

With out me tooting my own horn, my friends and loved ones see me as a kind and gentle man.. not gentleman gentle man there is a difference.

I understand I am outspoken and hardheaded and can still be damn aggressive WHEN PROVOKED.

But here in joeuser land I am seen as some kind of angry madman, racist, filled with venom.

How can there be such a difference in what my friends and family sees and what joesuer people see me to be?

I just do not understand it.

*bump... Ow!

I've noticed in my own life that an entirely different part of me is revealed when I write. Some writers are introverts, because writing lets them express things that they'd otherwise have no way of venting. If you're known as a "gentle man" among those who know you best, maybe you tend to let yourself go when you write...and let it all out...the good, bad, and all.

I may be way off base here, since I'm not an avid follower of your blogs, though I do catch them occasionally like I did today...

But that's my $0.02.

I am hoping the one person that blogs here will see this and add her 2 cents. I am an extrovert in life as I am here and just as outspoken. hmmmm

I know that we aren't the same as what we present here at JU. Not like we are liars or putting on fronts (although there may be some of each), but we each have a purpose for blogging here, and the purpose doesn't always include the whole of who we are.

I know there are times that I go off, there are times that I seem mean spirited, which most who no me will tell you, i'm not. However, no one who knows me would say that I'm not opinionated. ;~D A lot of the time, when I go off it is because I am actually feeling something and I revel in it with a bit more gusto than I should.

"Well, son ~ let's get a couple of illusions out of the way. Number one you are not, 'the saint' that role is already taken, and you are not the 'devil' post filled, but I like what John Lennon had to say, each of us has a little Jesus Christ and a little Adolph Hitler. Unfortunately, we can accentuate more of one and less of the other at times...hence we can sometimes, just be a pain in de neck, but that role is taken too....so I guess stuck with your riddle until she, whoever you want her to be....Cliff Richard called her, 'devil woman' and here in South Africa, he accept a really cold reception when he cam to tour...Bob Dylan got that right when he hinted at never really worrying about what people say cause at the end of the day, you cannot please all of the people all of the time...whether you paint the Sistine Chapel...and make Adam's mammallian pretuberance just right, there is always so guy in a holier than thou schmuck, or schmok, who will come along and say, darn it it's too long. This is way too long......When you blogg do you listen to Heavy Metal? I did sometime find you a touch on the heavy handed, but then again, what you said a lot of the time was right on the button, I think you are a goodly sort, with a touch to much shaving cream on your face...no harm it washes off. I understand I "go off" time to time. but how is all the kind remarks I make to others that hurt go unnoticed here> I have never ever stepped in someones blog and insulted them, attacked them or disrespected them. not once. never. ever.

many of us are multi-faceted people.  What the bloggers here at JU see is only one (or perhaps more than one) facet of who you are.  Either way, we don't see every facet of you the way your friends and family do.  For some people, there is a certain part of us that gets lost in translation when we put our thoughts in print.

not to mention the fact that once you've established a reputation or given a first impression, it's hard to change the way that people see you.

Reactions are moderated by consequences. JU consequences are (relatively) low.

I'm sorry dabe but i just has to delete your comments. being taken to task by someone as hate filled and angry as you was just more than I could bear. I have seen many cases of projecting your own emotions and failings on someone else but NEVER HAVE seen someone like you in jy 58 years on earth. you are a hippocrite even comming into my site and commenting at all.

Of course not. I'm pretty soft-skinned myself (probably more so than you; not underrating your gentleness, but I'm REALLY soft-skinned). My JU personality, unfortunately, probably comes off nicer to a few people than the actual me (or the real me may come off as more likeable...depends on the person, really). I'm pretty glib and sarcastic, and I speak before I think. Probably about 1/1 millionth of what I want to say or think of saying on JU are actually said.

Lil bro... best to let this all go.... There is only one blogger here that I thoroughy detest...she is blacklisted on my threads, I do not respond to hers in any way except for the occassional diss here and there. I am not here to communicate with the uncommunicatable. I don't think you are either.
Just continue to post your 'outragious' political opinions... even those of us that disagree with you get a chuckle out of them. Don't let anyone here get to you... life is to short for that.

K I have sat back and seen other bloggers slam Moderateman over and over again and at times have commented on it but on most part have held back because what I would say to that person would be very inapporpriate for others to see. Moderateman is a very sweet man in real life as well as here in this little box. He is very opinionated and is able to get out his opinions the way he sees fit.. thank god for freedom of speech ha? For Dabe to go on and on how he is a racist is just total B.S. he is far from that. For her to wish him death is just pure hatred. This m an is strong and brave , who fought for all of us and when he returned got no Thank you from anyone, Thank You MM from teh bottom of my heart! HE is now fighting for his life and he is showing the strength and courage that is needed and he is still able to lend me support and love in my fight for life. I could go on and on about MM but he knows my thoughts and feelings for him.
Words do hurt, I dont care what any one says about that, Dabe back off of MM , For someone who so strongly hates someone you go out of your way to read his post.

The fact is that people here don't know you (unless, of course, they actually do and just happen to also blog here).  I know that people here have no clue what I'm really like, because you can't see me and you can't hear the tone of my voice.  I'm amazingly sarcastic (a good half of what I say is sarcastic) but I don't write much sarcasm because people take it seriously.

People on here also say things to each other that they would never say to somebody in person, because...well...they can.  What's the consequences for doing so?  In person, you might get fired, lose a friend, or receive bodily injury.  On here, the worse that can happen is that you get banned.

The other problem is personal information.  How much do you really want to share?  It's a catch 22, right?  LW has proven that sharing too much will come back to haunt you in the form of ammo for enemies, so how do you give enough info so that people actually know you but not enough to harm you?

Do you scream in real life?  That could be part of it.  Because I doubt you do, yet writing does not allow for body langauge and without body langauge, it is hard to tell the tone of a written article.  And therefore people mis-interpret you.

I would not let it bother you.  I have mis-understood others and had others mis-understand me.  And in those cases, I try to re-explain to eliminate the mis-conception, or appologize for mine.

I would think it's the capital letters too (they read like you are shouting), and the way in which you write down your views. Lack of smilies may also lead people to think you are unfriendly and possibly fierce. This is the way things are on the net. I tend to express my views in plain text with no smilies when I'm serious, and apparently, it sometimes make insecure types very defensive. Hasn't happened to me here yet, but it happened elsewhere. And I'm not even into political discussions. Insisting that it's my own personal view and I'm not pushing it on anybody does nothing to calm them. Then I get mad too, and then I get accused of being the aggressor. Well, whatever...
