Microsoft asks sites not to show LH screenshots..

http://www.windowsitpro.com/Articles/Index.cfm?ArticleID=46188

Microsoft is showing off Longhorn this week at WinHec. But they're asking users to not show screenshots of Build 5048 in screenshots on websites. Our friends at Neowin and other sites have been asked by Microsoft not to show such screenshots (the EULA for 5048 indicates that you won't put up screenshots).

So what's the deal? Well there's a lot of speculation. Lockergnome's Chris Prillo put it bluntly - "It looks like ass." as the reasoning MS doesn't want it out there.  5048 doesn't have the DWM enabled by default and when it is enabled, it's quite pokey, even on good hardware right now.  Bear in mind, this is pre-beta stuff.

I can see people complaining about the OS if it was a month away from release, but we have close to 18 months left to the final build.

I see it like how voo or myself show previews in #stardock. Show a little bit of a preview (say at most 100x100 pixels) and save the full blown preview until it's near release or released. That's just my take on it.

Apple doesn't show previews of the OS it's currently working on, and whether or not they've announced it makes no difference. We all know they are working on a new OS or a new update. From my point of view as a consumer, I save my comments and judgements until I see a finished product. As of right now I'm running PS CS2 (trial) but since it's not a "real" final build of it, I'm saving my harsh (and there are several) critisisms until I use a final product.

In the great age on the internet, any 13 year old kid can download LH 5048 from warez and complain after that it sucks because it is not finished, dismissing the fact that 1/ they did not have any right to install it and 2/ it is only intended for hardware and drivers development. This whole LH story is a joke.

"If the wheel was flat to begin with, putting another flat on the rim wont solve your problem"

Fortunately Stardock is in the business of selling wheel upgrades with flashy hub covers.
