WindowBlinds 4.51 released

Windows XP 64 support and more!

http://www.windowblinds.net

Stardock has released WindowBlinds 4.51.  WindowBlinds is a program that enables users to change the look and feel of their Windows GUI by applying new skins called "visual styles" that can change nearly every aspect of the Windows interface (title bars, push buttons, Start bar, etc.).

The most significant new feature in WindowBlinds 4.51 is support for Windows XP 64 (for both AMD and Intel chipsets).  So now users with 64-bit Windows can skin their Windows user interface.  It also includes enhanced support for MSStyles (imported via SkinStudio - www.skinstudio.net).

Other changes include:

  • Skins more elements of .NET apps
  • Shellstyle (explorer views) performance improved
  • Better support for skinned windows being viewed via Remote Desktop
  • Tweaks for Yahoo Messenger, Photoshop, and a few other apps
  • Increased performance acceleration for theme aware programs
  • Added Portuguese (Brazil) support

WindowBlinds is available in a free downloadable version as well as an enhanced version which adds support for non-theme aware programs, on the fly colorization, and skinning of many elements of the Windows GUI not normally skinnable.

The trolls are at it again over at Betanews. I can't believe people still write and complain about the memory usage when it has not been an issue at all in my eyes since version 3 and XP.

I just noticed alot of skins, including my fav. GT3 have problems with 4.51, text/title is not showing on any windows and colours seems a bit weird, I guess all skins have to be updated now?

No skins need to be updated.

If you are having problems then I would strongly suggest you try reinstalling WB.  Also check you have not touched the colouring features by mistake.

where sould I download the new WB for free? I want to have a try first, and whenever I click on the links provided it always takes me back to the same WB 4.5 downloading site... where can I find it??

Why is it called 4.51? abbrevation for 4.5.1? I'm sure I didn't miss the forty in between 4.5....

I agree about the forced download of all those skins. If I wanted the skin, I already have it. I edit nearly every skin I download to suit my particular taste (or lack thereof), and have to change the directory names on my versions to keep the downloads from writing over my changes. I am on dial-up, and this wastes an awful lot of my time. We had the option to download the skins or not on Component Manager and Stardock should restore that feature. (It's a big waste of your bandwidth, too)

I was under the impression that SDC was only going to be downloading the components necessary to update the app and not a bunch of other stuff like skins and things. What happened to that; it is a good idea.

~I don't see any complaints so far..guess i'll take the upgrade...I agree with the upgrade should give you the choice if you want the same blinds again. Some of the blinds have been around a long time..I hate d/loading what I know im never going to use.

bl33k: I know of one colour problem in the Favorites menu for some older skins (text may appear black or overly bold). Stardock are currently working on a modification to fix that. It's not a huge problem, though.

I just clicked over in SDC and it still shows 4.50.

Classic menu bar fonts not displaying correctly (especially Essorant skins), I had to restore version 4.5 to correct the problem.

My Stardock Central said it was version 4.51.045
So far I've had no problems...yet.
