Metaverse cheating - multiple 60K games every day

Look at top players.

A few 60K in one day Gigantic or Huge/Masochistic for example. It takes a few days to finish, and the top player has some days showing he finished 10 or so this kind of games. Every game has the same setting and everything as shown in Metaverse profile.

Is it some kind of Save/Load before winning and multiple submissions to Metaverse bug or something?

This kills the idea of Metaverse, and I think cheaters should be punished.

There isn't any cheat: there are formulas to be able to get 60K in few hours (or even less with the beta of AP).

And there are some things that allows to have a faster turn:
- play on rare settings (less planets mean less things to manage)
- turn off all eye and candy options (follow ships, show battles, follow AI ships ...)
- reduce the rate of the savegame
- don't move manually every ships each turn
- use the governors for building improvements on each planet (Ford is the default governor for every planet)
- use fast way to end a game: alliance victory (with bribe to move AI to close, and then ally with them), or destroy all AI systems at the same turn with Terrors stars

And a good computer helps to reduce the time spend per turn.

And for scoring purpose, any ended before january 2190 score 50% less than if it was ended after january 2190.

And don't forget that it is always possible to play games during a week an submit all games on the same day, if there is an endsavegame for each of these games.

Dont worry Devean I thought the same until I cracked the code, which I believe you should be able to do after the first 50 odd games :)

On top of Peace's tips playing the AP version enables people to get 60k on smaller maps.

People that do not follow formulas, buy out the games they play are having more fun and have more challenge.

I always thought that there was something strange with myself as i never could post multiple games. After a while i stumbled on a formula that helped change the way i was playing the game. These days i can play a game in around 50 minutes on a gigantic map. Plus i never take more than 10 planets as it makes it easier to concentrate on colony management and takes less time.

Good luck on your games and remember to play for fun! The Metaverse is not that important, what counts is your enjoyment playing the game.

I can finish a Huge/Occasional Maso game in under 2 hours easy. No military, 3-4 systems, bribe like crazy. Alliance victory or military victory via alpha strikes.

You gotta get a groove that works for you and once you get it down, you'll have your own "formula". Also, I think one or two of the top players has the game on a laptop at work and plays all day while "working". ;) I could almost get away with doing that myself but I choose not too.

I don't worry about that, I don't play the game to be the best in Metaverse, just to have fun. I use Metaverse to compare myself to others. I just think this 'scorehunting' type of play takes all the fun from playing the game and the Metaverse misses its purpose. It becomes just a place to check who can play faster using set formulas. It's like abusive scripting in MMORPGs for me.

One of the really great things about GalCiv is that it can be played at many levels. It is very hard to compare a game at one level with a game at a different level. Find the level you enjoy and play. Or play all the levels because of the variety and challanges each level brings. But don't feel bad about those that don't play like you like to play and don't compare your score that you get with someone else's score that was obtained playing a different way. They are just numbers that are only consistant when compared to same type of game. If the Metaverse were to fragment itself to reflect the major ways the game could be played, then you would only compare with those who play the same way. But there would still be some who don't play the way the Meta would have been fragemented. It is not cheating or cheesy or anything else. If you don't want to take advantage of certain things, don't. For example, some people eliminate any minor AIs from the game because it it too easy to trade techs with them and exploit them in that way. Other love it and that is part of the fun they have, seeing how many techs they can extract (extort) from the Minors.

As others have said, play to have fun. Complaining about how others play will not contribute to your fun.

I definitely fall in Weyrleader's camp. I play the game for fun as I define the word fun. For me, one game in a large universe (rare planets) takes about 6-8 hours. I fiddle with the slider's alot. I try to get the Trade Goods and Wonders. I build out the planets. I usually don't create much militarily until Overlords or Excaliburs. I finish every game militarily and I don't culturally flip planets very often (rarely more than 0-1 per game).

I like the Metaverse even though I will probably never make it to the top 10 or even top 25. Some people get their kicks from scoring and that is fine with me. To each their own. The only way the Metaverse scores become relavant is when the score hounds vie with each other for the top spots. Otherwise, you are really only competing against yourself. It's been my experience that the scoring system is somewhat backwards in a way as I usually score lower in games that were the most challenging. Go figure

To each their own.

I would have given this game up a while ago if it wasn't for the metaverse scoring. At first is was a top 50 spot, then top 25, then top 10. Now I am after my Capt's hidden stash (sshh dont tell him).

I have experimented with lots of different ways of playing to achieve faster games (sort of like an arms race).

I also like experimenting with mod packs submitted from other players. This has helped maintain my interest.

The only other game that compares (for me) in replayability was the original civilisation (civilization for some). :HOT:

Oh man the original civ complete with the invinceable phalanx cheat for the ai and the old park the battleship behind city walls trick for the humans. 3 battleships behind city walls in a coastal city can take out all the computor's tanks. HEHE.

With a good computor and all day to sit there and hit turn repeatedly, one could easily finish 15-20 games (huge maso alliance win) in a 24 hour timeframe if they didn't sleep. I'm sure someone has done it.

{imho on

I couldn't agree more about the replayability of the original Civ games. I always thought that they should take the ending position in Civ and make it your starting position in a game of MOO. As you know, one of the ending scenarios in Civ was to build and launch a colonization ship into space. This is eerily similar to your starting position in MOO. The appeal would be that the better you played in Civ would equate to better MOO starting techs (and a better initial colonization date) in MOO. You could, in a sense, get a head start in colonizing other planets before the AI's got out of the gate (hey hey).

In other words, imagine playing the same game starting with Civ and going continously through MOO.

imho off}

Ok all this talk about easy win formulaes on huge maso. Where do people find them? Are they shared among empires or are they somewhere in the forums?

If they are the reson for the stupid idea of logistics that makes it impossible to grab more than a few resources even with the "park a constructor on it and wait" cheat, I'd suggest SD started adressing that in stead of ruining the game.
In the past couple dozen games I've played I haven't built a single constructor or starbase. Just don't need 'em. ;)

There have been quite a few strats in the various empire threads. Check the Guardians, Gross and Diplomats for sure as I've seen them in there.

They did address it somewhat in AP.Logistics cost less now and based on what size galaxy your playing you get some for free.

What peeps are we talking about here? The unaffiliated(empireless)? Those who haven't submitted since date X? If so what is date X? Can you clarify this a bit please Brad? You may end up removing people like MM77/SamBen who may not submit but have certainly contributed to the life of Galciv.

There are tips in the strategy forum on this site , as well as here http://diplomats.galciv.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=7 in the Senate Halls.

Some people are messing with games they've submitted already and resubmitting them as new games.

Anyone who's submitting multiple large games per day is going to be scrutinized.

Except the people who are doing what he's describing. But at least that will take away the Masoverse and give people who don't have all day to play a chance to compete.

I don't believe it will mate :( you can still easily finish a game in under an hour if you know what the trick is (looks at the diplomats site there are a fair few tips over there if you want to know how to do it).

If you start using mods as well you can get it down to half an hour.....

Frogboy, is this a quote from somewhere who is complaining, or is this a stated fact that you know about. I don't believe that anyone is doing this, nor according to my understanding, would the Meta accept a resubmitted game and count is as a new game.

Am I right in the last assumption?

Wow!! I didn't think this was much of a possibility. This is very disturbing if true! :(
