ObjectDock for MacOS X announced

The Macintosh finally gets a dock

Livonia MI - April 1st, 2005.  Software developer Stardock Corporation has announced its intention to port its popular Windows dock program, ObjectDock to MacOS X.  ObjectDock is a freeware program that enables users to place a "dock" on any edge of the screen that can display both running programs and short-cuts to programs as well as have special items such as a trashcan.  It can be configured such that when the mouse overs over the icon, that icon and nearby icons are "magnified".

"The availability of ObjectDock on the Macintosh platform indicates a growing movement of software developers to recognize the benefits of developing for MacOS X,"  said Apple CEO, Steve Jobs. "Many of our users who use Microsoft Windows on occasion and been exposed to Stardock's ObjectDock have clamoured for a way to have a convenient, yet stylish, way to quickly access their programs and tasks.

Stardock expects to release ObjectDock in conjunction with the next major release of MacOS X, code-named "Tiger". Stardock is also considering adding a few additional features to a MacOS version.

"With the advanced features of Quartz Extreme," said Eric Reid, developer at Stardock, "we could add some really cool effects to ObjectDock.  For instance, imagine having windows look like they're being sucked into the dock when the user minimizes a program? The possibilities are endless."

Stardock's home page is https://www.stardock.com.  ObjectDock will continue to be a freeware program on both platforms though there is some talk about bundling it with the next generation Macintosh to ensure that Macintosh users are able to have this functionality right from boot up.

It's about time the Mac Users get a chance to experience one of the truly great Windows programs ever developed!

I bet those Mac users have been clamoring for a dock type program for a while now. Glad to see they will finally get it.

Cute, but didn't you guys do the same April Fools joke LAST year?

Ok I'm Confused. Maybe Someone Can Verify Two Things For Me.
I didn't think Object Dock Was Freeware. Didn't The Idea of The Dock Come From Mac OS's?

Great. Now Mac will get even more popular. Did you guys that Mac in homes is now at 18% already, up from 2%?

Also the college I'm going to plans to convert to purely Mac computers. I guess I'll have to buy a Mac computer or laptop.

But if the macs get a dock-like program, how will PC's stand a chance in the already predominantly mac market? This could be the beginning of the end...so long as they don't port anything else, such as flashy visual styles, stylish form factors, or god...imagine if they had expose-like effects...that would be scary indeed...

This is the second time and people still felt for it...

Wasn't this the same story used last year along with WB being ported over to OS X? Come guys...time for original April fool's stories.

You fools who thought this was real lol.
Anyhow I didn't believe it since Mac has a dock, but also the report contradicts itself. It says Stardock expects to have it bundled with OSX, then at the end says there is some talk of bundling it with the next generation Mac OS. The first sentence sounded like it was a done deal, then the last one makes it seem only a possibility

You should have had a fools joke something like that MS has decided to use DesktopX extensively in creating Longhorn or something else equally weird.

Come on guys, you could have been a little more creative this year.... at least a new article.....

How about:

> "Stardock discontinues the development of WindowBlinds!!"
> "Stardock takes over Konfabulator!"
> "Brad Wardell sells Stardock to Apple!"

now those would have triggered some reactions...

Just don't make us use Mac. Being suspicious over interest of Mac user in skinning. The've got their Aqua and they think nothing else is needed.
indicates a growing movement of software developers to recognize the benefits of developing for MacOS X

And I'm still not sure is this April fools or not. For example 'Stardock gives up skinning and begins with steel production' would be impossible but at first sight people would stare at the words.

I agree.

You are confused.

I'll tell you one that might surprize everyone.

Brad sells Stardock to Microsoft. It's very plausible.

Brad has stated on a previous forum posting that Stardock HAS an internal version of Objectdock that does just that. But we will never see it.

This is due I assume to possible Apple lawsuits. Besides, I haven't heard of Apple really buying a product, just copying it, and then claiming that it was their idea to begin with.
