Baby Gown Smocking for Stillborns

a Service Project

Oh wow, as soon as I wrote my last articleLink, I read our church's April newsletter (under "Enrichment Night)...and it says that a smocking class is being taught in April. How wonderful is that? I'll be there. :)

(Explanation if you aren't familiar with what I wrote earlier: There's an ongoing service project at church in which the sisters make bereavement blankets and itty-bitty smocking gowns for stillborns at the Landstuhl Hospital. When I first heard about it, I thought, "How morbid." Then I came across it again more recently, at a time my heart was a little softer...and I thought, "How wonderful, that these babies will be buried in clothing that so much love was poured into, just for them..." and I wept for the little ones, and for their mothers whose hearts are aching. )

I came across your comments while searching the web for smocked bereavement gown patterns. I am so happy to know that yet another group is participating in this ministry. I am a hospital chaplain in Canada whose perinatal bereavement program is blessed by the donation of tiny smocked gowns. I have witnessed so many parents shed tears of happiness even in their pain as they have dressed their little ones in these beautifully and lovingly made gowns. May God bless you and your ministry as your ministry blesses these families.
