Tippecanoe and Tyler, Too

Part 9 of My Presidential Review Series

Settling in for a long write, the series now reaches William Henry Harrison. Harrison's election is considered the first modern election, complete with songs, themes, and hoopla. Harrison was portrayed as a simple frontiersman, despite being from a grand manor on a plantation in Virginia. In order to convey this appearance, he gave a long Inaugural in the cold without a jacket, which later proved to be his downfall. He was the first president to die in office, and the first president under the Whig party. Harrison served March 4, 1841 to April 4, 1841.

Only one thing can be said of the Harrison Administration: it existed. Other than that, nothing. All Harrison did before dying from pnemonia was appoint his Cabinet. He had appointed them on how well they could do their job, thus hoping to end the spoils system, but with the mass resignation of his appointees during the Tyler administration, the spoils system was restored.

Harrison died on April 4, 1841.

Um...that's it. Nothing to see here, nothing to review. Sorry if you were expecting more, but there's nothing to say.

Overall Ranking: Due to the brevity of his administartion, Harrison will not be ranked.

"The people are the best guardians of their own rights and it is the duty of their executive to abstain from interfering in or thwarting the sacred exercise of the lawmaking functions of their government."

You should have used that as the title!  You did manage to make me laugh as well.

I will give you another tidbit tho.  He and John Tyler were born and lived in the same county of Virginia.  Charles City.  It is not a city and barely a county.  But if you want to see some grand pre-bellum plantaions, visit it.

And I would also say "Cop out" on the ranking, but then I am laughing too much and cant fault you for that!

Now you can get back to the unknowns.

Oh, (well here is another nickle), He was the first one to suffer from the Cherokee Curse.  It ended with Reagan, but just barely as he was shot, but lived.

Considering that I had nothing much to say, I decided to put a dash of humor in. I don't think that would have fit as a title, though.

Hm. That's interesting. Not a city and barely a county? That's like Luxembourg, except replace county with country.

Oh, dang, I knew that and I meant to put it in. Oh well. And we don't know it has ended yet; Bush's term isn't over yet!

I hope you don't mind if I put in another nickle too:

Harrison died on the same day as Martin Luther King, Jr. And they both died on what happens to be my birthday! I sure have a deadly birthday, huh?

Hmm . . . does the Harrison administration even deserve a comment by the Great, Splendid, Magnificent, Omniscient Fazz?

I don't know. We should ask him, but apparently we must ask elsewhere, since the only Fazz here is you.

Yes, we should ask the Great, Splendid, Magnificent, Omniscient Fazz. I am the Great, Splendid, Magnificent, Omniscient, Omnipotent Fazz!
