Questions about Easter

1) Easter is about Jesus' death in christianity right? So when did he die? Good Friday? And when did he rise again? Sunday or Easter Monday?

2) The jews celebrate Easter as well, right? So what's the 1st meaning of Easter?

3) What's up with Easter eggs and bunnies??? someone told me once but it was long ago!

Thanks for answering or guessing!

1. He died on the friday.. well could have been another day but its the day the traditions use. Sunday is the day of the resurrection.

Actually I think Easter is celebrated on the Sunday after the Spring Equinox or the full moon after a certain period in the calander symbolising a pagan festival to do with new life??

2. I dont think Jews celebrate Easter they dont believe in Jesus.

3. Eggs is about new life, resurrection, new energy..

Hot cross buns.. yum!

The First sunday after the first full moon after the Spring Equinox. (is that a mouthful or what).

2. Jews Celebrate Passover as that is when they left their bondage in Egypt.  We know the day of Jesus' cruxifiction as he had the 'Sedar' the night before with his disciples (the Last Supper).  As Passover is always celebrated on the same date (Correct me Larry, MM or Mano if I am wrong), it is only sometimes that Easter and Passover coincide so closely (and I dont think they do this year).

And PB Nailed number 3, so nuff said.

This bears repeating:

Why does the Easter bunny hide her eggs?

She doesn't want anyone to know she's been screwing chickens...

I don't know if it is true, but "legend" has it that coloring easter eggs is part of the greek orthodox tradition, and spilled over to everyone else. It has something to do with blood being spilled from the cross and coloring the eggs that a passerby had--I'll see if I can find something.

On your first question--yes, good friday he died, and sunday he rose again--however, there's that tricky thing about the third day that has never really sat well with me..."he descended into hell, on the third day, he rose again..." Seems to me it was only the second day...saturday is the first, sunday is the second...oh well...

I don't know if it is true, but "legend" has it that coloring easter eggs is part of the greek orthodox tradition, and spilled over to everyone else.

The eggs are in part from the red eggs that the Greek orthodox use in celebration.  It comes from a story of Mary Magdalene.  Following Jesus's resurrection, she used her social status get into a banquet given by Tiberius Caesar.  She held a plain egg in her hand and exclaimed "Christ is risen!" Caesar then said that Christ rising from the dead was as likely as the egg in her hand turning red while she held it. The egg in her hand then turned a bright red.

Like most modern holidays, Easter started out a Pagan holiday.  It was a celebration of "Eastre" who is the Goddess of Springtime and "Offspring".  Eastre's "earth" symbol is the rabbit (which is where the Easter Bunny comes from).  I mentioned that the colored eggs were partly from the Greek, but the other part comes from how they have been a symbol of fertility and rebirth (spring) for as far back as we can tell.  People used to dye them using boiled flower petals.

To translate one little bit which no one else has touched on: Christ was more than likely crucified on 3 April 36AD, as acknowledged by even by the Pope. This fits with Passover and the historical and biblical accounts of Christ's life. The Bible says the Moon turned to blood red when Christ was killed. As it happens, there was a lunar eclipse on 3 April 36, which often makes the moon appear red. We still use Easter eggs because the resurrection is also a festival to celebrate the rebirth of Christ, so they are still appropriate.

Although i was a bit shocked with the rabit hiding her eggs because she doesnt want anybody knowing she's been screwing chickens, bwahaha!!!! that was good!

But all in all it seems that Easter is another pagan festivity that has been 'christianised' (if that even is a word).

I hope yall had a great holiday and didnt get sick from too much chocolate
