New Longhorn screenshots

A look at the future of Windows

http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/longhorn_preview_2005.asp#roadmap
WinSupersite has recently updated the Longhorn release schedule along with provided some new screenshots of Aero. The first beta of Longhorn is May 2005 though there is some speculation about how much of Avalon and Aero will be implemented in that beta. The "big beta" is scheduled for this Fall.

So as a "Certified Gold Microsoft Windows partner", will you get to test a first-version beta? And if you do, will you be posting your observations and experiences to share with the WC community?

That just fills my pants with crap and my heart with hope. This could be Microsofts comeback to the functional albeit "Pretty Boy" MacOS X. Not that I like Microsoft, just windows...

Lookin good. But I'm not sure if I want it until SP1. Lol, that seems to be the best time to get anything Microsoft anyhow. Kinda looks like some skins that are around here tho Maybe Microsoft has taken a liking to WindowBlinds? lol

Baaaaaaahhhh..All I want to know is ..can we skin it??...LoL

It's got some impressive features and design capabilities. I'd like to see a near final gui done for it soon though. I'm sick of looking at this ugly piece of work they have made.

Looks nothing like OSX or the Longhorn I remember seeing before, I liked the earlier versions more O_o This seems too cartoony to me, and where's the pretty side panel with the clock and all the neat stuff

I have to agree with horiz0n and steve here, I think the attributes you can directly access without having to right click > properties is something I can really use, but the look? Ugh! Maybe we can convince good ole Bill to let the Authors here work something that would completely blow the top off! Damn, could you imagine what authors like Treetog, or Essorant, or Boxxi (just to name a few right off the top, no exclusion intended! ) could do with it? Whoa!

Anywho, thanks for the heads up!

Don't get too hung up on the look. XP went through many looks during its development. I expect they are more focussed on layout and functionality than the interface graphics at this point. Regardless, I can't wait to skin it.

mmm... alphatransparent skinning... more bit depth... yummy

But if everybody with a PC goes aero, then mine won't be special anymore . Alternate Setting goes off to investigate making monitor shoot out sparks on demand.

Looks like crap... surely they can do better.

IMO, the Explorer window looks like iTunes / Finder on drugs...

hey hey first off i would like to say that someone has to make a windowblind skin like that a.s.a.p. the new version of longhorn that we are seeing is a lil slicker then version 4051 or whatever version they were on last time i looked.....i like the clear(see through) windows very nice...i have seen only a few screen shots of this new version....and i can still say that i am stoked fer the release!!! i jus hope that it can do all the slick things i have seen it do in the past..at least once a day i talk to someone about longhorn...i live and work in halifax Nova Scotia and the office building i work in (6 floors above me) is a microsoft office and i keep asking people i see from there if they can tell me sumthin about longhorn!!! now they jus laugh and say sorry...um all most tempted to jus go up and ask quetions!!see funny thing is that while um at work i think there up there playing with longhorn all day ha ha ha ha!!! all i wanna do see sneak a quick peek thats all!!!!lol..the only thing i hate about longhorn is that it takes up all my internet surf time....trying to get the lastest scoop on what goin on! anyway enough babbling i love the look and the things it can do as well as what i have saw so far this looks like it is goin to be very cool and worth the wait!!!!! cityboy

i don't know, i think it's a hopeless cause to have such strong colors in an os. i think OSX had something going by employing mostly whites and other soft colors. it's just intrinsicly more appealing to most people. either way, too much color and not enough professionalism. (PS, i agree with the guy that said it looks like itunes on drugs)

I do at least think it's neat that the clear part isn't just see through, but seems to blur the background as well.

Well looks like ill still be useing windowblinds for a long time...lol That interface sucks compared to anything I run useing windowblinds now..

Does anyone have any links to any older styles of XP? (The styles changes that it went through.)
