Everyone knows what a Wedgie is right? If you don’t, I guess you haven’t been in a school locker room, on a play field or even watch television much. The art of giving someone a “wedgie” is one of the most popular pranks amongst youngsters on most television shows that feature them in high schools to colleges.
The Akron Beacon Journal, stated that the word Wedgie has now been added to the Webster’s New World College Dictionary. I checked the Merriam Webster Dictionary; it has the word Wedged, and does describe it as the act of clothing being caught between the buttocks. But it does not, I repeat, does not have the word Wedgie!
I guess it takes a college dictionary to put the word in as it is popularly known. After all, a wedgie is the nightmare of any teen, they do it to each other for the "fun" of it!
This is how the word is listed: “wedgie: noun. A prank in which the victim’s undershorts are jerked upward so as to become wedged between the buttocks.”
Quite unpleasant from what I've seen too. I've never been given a wedgie by anyone, but I've had the uh, unpleasant experience of undergarment gone "bad" and having to get rid of the offending pant. OK, that's way too much information!
Now would you have thought this word was in the dictionary already? Truthfully, it's not something I would normally sit and think about. But it was interesting to read about.
