Population Growth

This question has been bugging me for some time now: how do the alien civs all get such large populations so much faster than I can?

Do they just have higher birth rates?

Keeping moral high seems to make little difference. What else should I be doing? Banning the sale of contraceptives Empire-wide??

Hmm.. banning contraceptives would make a great event mod...

To answer your question, you are on the right track, happy populations with low taxes and access to health care, news networks, etc, procreate faster. It takes practice, tweak the sliders early on in the game adjusting the tax level. I do not believe the aliens have a distinct advantage either way, aside from being able to manage their tax, income and spending sliders better (I often forget to do so during a turn).

I wish I could give you precise hints, but I have not had time to play these past few weeks due to the birth of our first child, so I am busy adjusting my own income and spending levels LOL

Pedro, mswaim is right. However, there is only one way to match the AI growth. You must maintain 100% morale almost all the time. You need to build soil enhancement and habitat improvements early. Make em happy and give em room to grow. You will match and usually beat the AI population growth. Hope that helps.

Or if that fails, just use mass drivers and bomb them back to the stone age. That will deal with those pesky overpopulation issues, ;p

I find mass drivers don't provide a permanent enough solution. Better use a terror star to make sure. You never know when those pesky Harvesters will popup. (oops, wrong game ) :p
