What is wrong with this statement

Read it and then Comment on it

The Following statement was made by Jada Pinkett Smith.  I would like anyone to tell me what is wrong with this statement.

"Women, you can have it all--a loving man, devoted husband, loving children, a fabulous career," she said. "They say you gotta choose. Nah, nah, nah. We are a new generation of women. We got to set a new standard of rules around here. You can do whatever it is you want. All you have to do is want it."

"To my men, open your mind, open your eyes to new ideas. Be open,"

I will explain more later in the comments section, or perhaps modify this post for the answer.

I'm looking at it Dr. Guy and I can't see what is wrong with her statement. Except for grammatically, which is not good, I get the gist of what she is saying and why.

Well, she is not a rocket scientist, but I agree with her sentiments and I thought it was a very nice encouraging statement for college students.  It was made at an appearance at Harvard.

It is definately most encouraging to college students, and any woman out there who doesn't believe in herself. And you would be surprise to know how many young women out there do not believe in anything, much less themselves or what they can achieve.

Of course, it helps when you marry a guy who's pulling down $20 million per film

Yes, and can hire a nanny to be the full time caregiver to your children while you attend to career first.

True for both, but telling them they can do it, I see nothing wrong with that. Yet it is at the center of a big controversy right now.

lol dr. guy.I was unaware of the controversy, but googled it (I hate suspense). I'll let you deliver the "punchline",though...would hate to steal your thunder.

Ok, I'm clueless about what is wrong with what she said. I totally agree with her statements. I'll try to restrain myself from cheating and looking up the answer though.

I googled it too.....and I'm not gonna steal your thunder either.

I'm sorry. Being Misoneistic, I find having a family and career simultaneously never bode well. Never. When you have a child, that becomes your career. Period. It's not about you. It's about your child(ren). As a lesbian, I find this statement offensive. I don't want a husband, I want a wife. As a man, I really do want a wife. So, I guess I really don't know what the hell I'm talking about. Though, I wish I were a lesbian, I think. Yeah.

Yeah, unless the husband cares for the children, the wife won't probably be able to take care of the kids and have a career at the same time, but she could definitely work toward that career while the kids are growing up, and in the end, she could have it all. I want to know what's all the controversy though but I'll wait for it!

eh, I got bored so I googled it too. how lame. i was accepted to harvard out of high school but chose to stay closer to home to get married. i'm rather glad i did that now. lots of idiocy coming out of that place lately.

I heard about the controversy surrounding Jada Pinkett Smith's well-wishing and words of encouragement. I won't steal your thunder either, altough I'm wondering who out there in JU land hasn't already heard about it. ;~D

I'll admit, there was one part of the quote that I found a bit entertaining (((whether "wrong" or not I'll leave to speculation)). That would be her admonishment ""To my men"... How many "men" does she have anyway? ;~D

I don't know but I've seen interviews with Will Smith talking about the reason their marriage works is because it's "open" If he wants to have sex with another woman he just has to talk about it with Jada - and vice versa

I don't think she means that trina, but I do believe having an open marriage is more about communication than having sex with other people.

There are so many ways to spice up sex in the bedroom it is not even funny, so there is no reason to be bored.

One thing thought: couples tend to fantisis about other people, and that should be ok. Maybe even talk about it sometimes just don't act on it. you could even play roles during sex that makes you the person of your dreams. (I'll play Sean Penn, she'll play Hally Berry). Maybe even dress like them!!

Oh and I am SOOOO going to feature this article post. It is a classic case of worker/employer social environment understanding. making statements... what is ok versus what is not....

Call me old fashioned, out of touch, or just demented, but the two types of marriage relationships I've never understood are those where the couple exclusively share everything but their bed and those where the bed seems to be all they share.

All I know is that nowhere in her speech does she specifically mention polygamous people, so I'm surprised they aren't crying "BLOODY MURDER!" over the whole DISCRIMINATION of Jada Pinkett-Smith.

The Gay and lesbian student organization of Harvard was highly offended and objected to Jada Pinkett Smith's affirmation (no condemnation of anyone else) of a heterosexual marriage, and actually (shock!) praised it for bringing love to the children.

Oh how lame. That's the whole controversy? Can't they come up with anything else to argue about anymore?
