Well here goes:
“This bus ride was taking way too long”, she thought as she watched the sun come up on the Friday morning. She was going to meet the man who has haunted her dreams for months now.
They had met at a coffee shop where she had been reading a book one dreary winter’s day. He had come blown in by the wind all ruffled and handsome. Handsome enough to eat, she thought. He sat down at the table across from her and as he drank his steaming hot brew, he glanced at her over his coffee mug. He stared at her with his intense grey eyes, like quicksilver, it was the first thing she noticed about him. She felt weak inside from his stare but couldn’t bring herself to ask him to stop or to move away. She pretended to read but was giddy with excitement thinking of what he could do to her right there on the table.
Suddenly he stood up and came over to her. Her breath caught in her throat as he sat down. She almost fainted when he said “Hi, I’m Richard. Why are you sitting here all by yourself?” She couldn’t think for a moment because his presence was larger than life and very intimidating. “Hello”, she said. “I’m Janice and I came in here to get away from the cold.” As she spoke he was writing his e-mail address on her napkin and said “I’ll be waiting for you”. And as suddenly as that he got up and left her sitting in a state of absolute confusion mixed with a healthy dose of desire.
She toyed with the thought for a day or two until her curiosity got the better of her. She finally decided to mail him. “But what does one say to someone you met briefly and don’t even know their name?” she thought as she sat in front of her computer. Then in a bold move she wrote “I want you” and sent the e-mail. She was shocked by what she had just done, but there was no time to sit and think about it because he had just replied. “I wanted you on naked on the table in the coffee shop and I still want you” She couldn’t believe that he knew who it was sending him this message but she was strangely relived that he remembered.
So it began. The all day e-mails, late night phone calls and the intense desire stirring in them both. “Please can we meet?” it read. She was surprised by this as she had thought he was happy with how things were going. “Yes please” she replied. “When and where?”
This is how it came about that she was sitting in a Greyhound bus headed to the coast. Anticipation was killing her; she was so excited that she didn’t know what to do with herself. It turns out that he was on a business trip when they met in the coffee shop and she was on her way to meet him in the early hours of the morning. She was to spend the weekend with him in cardinal delight.
As the buss pulls into the stop she takes a deep breath, steady’s herself and gets off. He is the first thing she lays her eyes on as she steps off the buss. They stare at each other for the longest time, neither of them saying a word. He comes to her and folds her in his arms for what feels like a mere instant, in this moment it is only Richard and Janice.
