I picked up my Notary commission from the county courthouse this afternoon. I am now officially a Notary Public for the state of Illinois. This is news worthy because why? Because I have a terrible habit of not starting what I finish. Of being a half-trained, half-assed this that and the other.....but this, this commission, I saw through to completion. I started it, I finished, and now I have something to show for it. So, as soon as my stamps and seals arrive I can start notarizing. Yay!!

According to the state of Illinois:

'The purpose of notarization is to prevent fraud and forgery.  A Notary acts as an official and unbiased witness to the identity of a person who comes before the notary for a specific purpose.  This places a great deal of responsibility upon the notary.'

I basically am comissioned as an agent of the state to verify that people are who they say thay are and witness their signatures.  I'm also authorized to have people swear/affirm oaths relating to the documentation they present to me.

I deal with legal documents (wills, powers of attorney, affidavits etc), financial documents (re-financing and loan applications), insurance documents, federal documents (immigration papers, passport and visa applications) and anything else that may require the notarization of a signiature of the administration of an oath.

Yep, for the Great State of Texas. My commission expires 01-08-2006.

I notorize Surety and P.R. bail bonds and probable cause affidavits mostly.

Most of my stuff will be powers of attorney, wills, affidavits etc etc, and I'm commissioned until 2009. It's probably old stuff to you by now, but I'm pretty stoked about having it!

I'm a notary in Michigan.  Michigan is pretty easy to become a Notary in, though.  It's actually a bit too easy, in my opinion.

I don't know how you could be working with all those legal documents without being a notary, though.  That would become a real pain!  Glad you got it, and have fun with the imprinter (that's my favorite part)

Yeah, it was. I had to draw the documents up myself and then have someone else come and notarize for me. Now I'm commissioned though, I can do it all myself. I also get kudos from the AF for doing it...which can't hurt.
