Hello All,

Just wanted to introduce myself. I purchased GC a couple weeks ago and just loaded it up today. Took a little to figure things out and even longer to read the little manual what with that font size of half a pixel and me being old with worn out eyes.

Anyways like I was saying I think this is going to be interesting. Hope to see my name somewhere in the Metaverse someday...

Welcome. I hate small fonts, too. My family has a history of bad eyesight. And this CRT monitor isn't helping anything. And I have a 50 page report on Nikola Tesla due tomorrow but this game is too addictive.

Thanks to all of you...

Hurley: Well I'm 42 going on 90 with the mileage I have on me... Funny thing about the eyes is they are 20/20, perhipheral is wider than standard all in all excellent. Fonts can be as small as they want on a monitor and I can read them fine. It is something about printed text that I begin to have what at first seemed blury vision. To make a long story short one of the tests does a couple things and it measures eye movement during the test. Well they found that my eyes track ever so slightly up and down very fast. The only thing we can figure is that over the years of working and playing on an interlaced monitor my eye muscles have developed a motor memory that tracks the interlacing!!! :SURPRISED: So as an experiment if I concentrate and tighten everything I can about my eyes the printed text is clear and sharp... Imagine that would ya...

Same here :) I downloaded the manual available here in pdf and printed that out. Much easier to read!

Don't forget the fantastic refresh rates on those wonderful orange-on-black (or green-on-black), hemispherical things we called "monitors" back in the day. You could actually SEE the flicker. Ah, Monochrome!

The frightening thing is, at 34 I think I qualify as "young" around here...

Monitors!!! You newbies!! Where are teletypes and before that front panels with toggle swicthes & lights for I/O. (Yes I did actually programme one of those, also lots of punched cards & batch only output!)

Don't forget those "printers" that did a line of text every 10 minutes or so, all the while sounding like a dying cat plugged into an amplifier.

Ooops sorry was an honest mistake.

It was a refrence to old practial joke played on new employees. Differrent classification of jobs within some miltary/government installations used differrent coloured punch cards for different jobs with different levels of security classification. The joke used to be to ask the new operators to sort out the clasifed chad from the card punch garbage hoppers!!

Eee luxury - when I were a lad we just had lights to display output, so you had to know binary; programming was by switching keys up and down and bugs were moths fried on the valves......
