I will never buy Object Desktop again!

I will never buy Object Desktop again!

Sorry, Stardock. My money's going elsewhere!

https://www.stardock.com/

I was a user of Object Desktop by Stardock for the last three years. I never regreted the purchase. With Stardock’s consistent updating of its software, the quality, thhe cool new features they’d always have in betas, it made my PC much more entertaining and useful!

However, this month, I have decided that I will not renew my membership to Object Desktop. In fact, I will not use it ever again!

Think I’m wrong for this? Well, after reading this, you will agree that I should not waste another dollar on Object Desktop!

Firstly, I am no longer on a PC. Having two computers was unnecessary for what I do (nothing), and I could accomplish more if I used only one computer. Besides, my brother needed a new PC, so I gave him that and fully embraced my one true love, my iBook.

Why does this matter? Well, Object Desktop is not compatible with OS X, Apple’s operating system for the Mac. In other words, there is no way I could even use programs such as WindowBlinds and DesktopX on my computer. In fact, OS X doesn’t run programs at all! It runs applications, which are like programs, but with a different name.

Even if it could run programs, I still wouldn’t waste my money on Object Desktop. Like the Monk, I suffer from OCD (and I remember everything). Everything has to be perfect, and the options that Object Desktop would provide me would cause far too much stress on me. I didn’t suffer from customizing Windows, since it’s inherently messy, but OS X is arguably perfect, and so there’s not much I could do to improve it. Anything I changed would be changed back to the default soon after. That’s why I don’t use Konfabulator, CandyBar, or ShapeShifter, even though I purchased all three applications!

So, as you can see, it would not be prudent for me to renew my membership to Object Desktop Network. I’m sure I’ll make some people angry by posting this, and I’m sure some of you will disagree, but none of you can deny that I have made some valid points for not purchasing Object Desktop or any other Stardock program ever again (assuming they don’t ever develop any Mac applications)! However, if you can convince me to change my mind, then I’ll happily renew my membership!

Did you just discovered about Mac? You're probably a PC noob. I'm a Mac Hater why because I knew what Mac can't do already for 6 years from now with I was 12 years old. I'm no geek ok, just smart of buying products

I've used a PC since I was in junior high, so if I'm but a high school freshman, then you are right! I am a noob!

I don't own a Mac but I'm interested to know what a Mac can't do that a PC can (I guess this is what you mean)?

A Mac can't run Microsoft Plus! for Windows XP.

Who Are You, well who cares, it seems to me you should do the unbracing with your brother and get that cmputer back and give him the Mac, firstly you are entitled to your opinion but why would you want to tell people your reason for not wanting to subscribe again after being subscribed for 3 years, it took you that long to realize you don't like O.D.

I don't not like Object Desktop. I just don't want to have two computers to maintain.

I don't want sound cruel but you purchased these other programs like Konfabulator etc. Don't you know what you want? Why would you choose so many.

I bought Konfabulator for OS X, not Windows XP.

Maybe to see how many people reply in hostility for no good reason?

That was merely a fringe benefit.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the original article was sarcasm....
If that's true, alot of people need to get a clue.

Sorry to hear that you wont be using OD again, but yeah I guess your article was pretty useless. I will never leave the PC. I might get a Mac because they run so efficiently and just look so smooth and whatnot, but the PC is so much more flexible and I like to change themes at my will and etc.

FYI, software is software is software. Not matter if you call it an application or a program. The only different is how the software is handled and executed by your OS. Mac programs are just folders with a ".app" extension with all of the program data in the folder. While Windows applications are handled via ".exe" files and are either self-contained (with no other files required) or have all the application data in Dynamic Link Libraries (DLLs). So think about that the next time you go off on a tantrum about what software on a Mac should be called.

DUH!!! Let it go mb. there is no need to justify yourself why you switched to MAC. if you are happy with it, then well and good. I was meant to laugh at your post but decided otherwise. Just like what everybody says, this is a matter of preference. Good luck with your MAC. i have to say and admit that MAC truly present good-looking User Interface.

This may have been said already but it showed poor taste to link to other products, kinda spiteful.

oh wow, real mature people. You to Jafo.
An applcation and a program are the same thing, just a different name.
So the guy decided to go Mac, ok? Was it necessary for him to make a big fuss? No.
Respect other people... or did your moms never teach yall that?

and just FYI, I dont care if yall bash me for this. I know that i am right, and so does every toher level headed person out there in the world.

Of course you are right.

It's everyone else that is wrong....

It's not as if ShapeShifter, CandyBar, or Konfabulator are competition to WindowBlinds, IconPackager, or DesktopX (well, I guess Konfabulator is a competitor, but Draginol (or is it Frogboy?) links to Konfabulator in some articles, so I don't think it's too disrespectful for me to link to it too)!

Thanks for the laughs, I needed it... you have missed your calling as a comedian...

Couldn't you run Virtual PC on the mac and use OD on it? I think that might work. That way you could have your cake and eat it, too.

This is my first post here, so sorry if this thread is dead.

er.. gander in the context of a quick peek, before all you people start calling me a goose plucker or somthin...

Some of us blokes are fair dinkum enough to know what a 'gander' is...or a 'butchers' for that matter...

excuuuuuse me, but Apple as a Company and Hardware Vendor and Mac OSX as Operating System are far from perfect... the only difference is that the hardware in Macs is fairly similar (judging from G5) in "out of the box" configurations, so they don't need to tussle around with thousands of different parts being available on the market.

This whole "Apple is Perfection" Thing is making me sick...

By the way, no one will stop you from not renewing your subscription, so whats the point of all this BS anyway ???
