Altarian Prophecy Beta Download Problem

I have a drengin.net subscription but stardock central keeps crashing every time I try to install the beta.
I tried the suggested stardock central download (sdc121_remove.exe) and checked and rechecked my serials etc to no avail.

However I found a solution and am downloading the expansion now. So if your in a similar position try this... Go to the games section, right click on the Altarian Prophecy Beta selection and use the achive -> download and archive option.

Hope this helps anyone who was in my predicament.

I tried that but I couldn't figure out where it downloaded too. That doesn't seem to really download or install it.

From the SDC help files:

Archiving and Restoring

Right-click on a component to access the options to Archive a component. If the component is already installed, you will be creating an archive of it at that level. Selecting the Selected App & Extra Files option will also archive any additional skins or themes you may have added for use with the application.

If you have not yet downloaded and installed a component, you can still use the Archive function. In that case, the component will be downloaded and archived, but it will not be installed. You will need to Restore it to have it installed.

You can't seem to install it by restoring either, I have 1.12 and 1.13 on my restore list but not the expansion. Even when I highlight the expansion and pick restore it just gives me 1.12 and 1.13

Thanks Ray, thats what I'd figured ;) hopefully It'll work, can't see why it wouldn't...

On dial up so it'll take a while to find out.

Well if it doesn't work hopefully someone will come up with something that does and pass it along.
I'll try it out once its finished downloading and tell you how it went ;)

I have an archived file though something may have gone wrong.
It has a weird name and is extensionless I renamed it to a .zip and the files inside are all cut off ".ex_" etc. Extracting and renaming these files gave no results whatsoever either.
Using the restore function with either archive (original and renamed) gives the same crash.

I have since unstalled and reinstalled stardock central multiple times with both the stardock central installers.

I'll get my error log with smart exception and post it shortly.

It does, I got it to archive 1.12 and 1.13 just fine. It just won't archive the expansion.

I have formatted/re-installed windows :D.

Reinstalled galciv and stardock central and everything works, the great thing was that the archive file works so I didn't have to redownload the file.

reinstalling Galciv and Stardock Central didn't do anything for me. I think I'll wait for Stardock to make a fix rather than reinstall Windows

Hi there,

The are currently 2 problems with GalCiv and trying to install it through SDC. To install the game normally (not archiving it) go into the SDC settings and untick the option to "Prompt to enter an installation directory" under the Installation heading. This option is what is causing SDC to crash. Select OK and go ahead and install the game as normally and everything should now be fine. The second problem is the archiving option, do not use this option at all as the archving name currently uses a character that cannot be used within filenames, thus the operation fails.

Hope this helps,
Brian

I'm not sure Brian, your probably correct and that would have fixed the problem. All I know is that now everything works fine. The only problem I have had is with stardock central is with the Altarian Prophecy install part. However the archiving part did actually work.... just it didn't want to install.

Now of course everything is working fine, I am using restored archives of galciv 1.13 and altarian beta. Of course this doesn't help anyone solve the problem but does hint to me that the problem was more then just stardock central.

His solution worked for me, though since it crashed in the last second while creating shortcuts Stardock Central doesn't think it's installed. But it is there.

Hi CariElf,

This is just a copy of my post to another thread before I noticed this one.

My Current Version of Stardock Central = 1.21.241 Build 37

My Current Version of GalCiv = 1.13

Each time that I try to Install the Beta of Altarian Prophecy SDC crashes to desktop. Below is the smartexception file generated.

As usual any help will be appreciated.

the answer is just a few posts back, go to tools\settings then uncheck Prompt to enter an installation directory.
