In need of a computer wiz

I downloaded AVG7 Antivirus and Zone Alarm Personal Firewall. I thought I had it all figured out, but suddenly I can't get to my "user accounts" in the Windows "control Panel". Just a blank screen comes up. Does anyone have any ideas on what could ce causing this?

TweakXP.com also very good for getting problems resolved.
Have you tried disabling teh AVG and ZA to see if it makes a difference? Have you tried accessing user accounts from Safe Mode?

SD you may want to look at what exceptions you have enabled in ZA. One of the things a good Firewall protects is the Admin account as that allows a hacker unlimited access to you computer. I don't use ZA so I'm not sure, but it seems like the logical culprit.

Ok, thanks guys. I think a bug might have got in when my Norton went belly up again. May need to do a recovery. We'll see.

SD, I have had both those programs for a couple years or more now, and nothing like that has happened to me. Get Rid of your Norton stuff, It will allow you to get a bug, and then try and fix it. The AVG will stop the bug before you can get it. It is especially good at stopping you from visiting web sites with Trojans, worms and the like. I hope you get it fixed. Let us know. Smile!

I almost think Norton sends the bugs, Cindi. I don't go to any questionable sites and don't open any e-mail that I am unfamiliar with, but I have had to recover 4 times (this will be the 5th) in a year. AVG and ZA seem to be nice and I will stick with them, but before that ...'sigh' I need to recover again. Time to start saving files.

Before I start though, I am feeling the need to dance

If you have an MSN passport, you could join this group, and they have people there that can read HiJackThis logs, Post it in a new thread with a short description as to what your problems are... 95% of the time it only takes a few re-postings of new logs, after 'fixing' what they suggest.

Much more simple then doing any Sys. Restores (which really isn't all that healthy for your puter to begin with)

Dragon check and or reinstall Windows script http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=c717d943-7e4b-4622-86eb-95a22b832caa&displaylang=en Happens to me once in a while. Just get a blank white page and nothing else especially in windows restore. Something about the visual basic being messed up makes it do that. Just reinstall and it should work fine.

RedBuzzard, I OWE YOU ONE BIG TIME. You just saved me about five hours of saving, restoring, reloading, tweaking, and frustration. If you're ever in Chicago and need a place to stay or need to be shown around the city or just want a meal on me, drop me an e-mail and tell me when.

THANK YOU!!!!
