From fantasy to reality
A general discussion about imagination.

When I was a kid, fairy tales used to enthrall me. I used to coax my parents to buy me a book every time they used to go out. Anderson, Grimm Brothers, Jules Verne etc. were like gods to me. Whenever I used to get time I used to immerse myself into the wonderful world of fairy tales. It was so surreal and fantastic- totally away from reality. The tales of fairies, witches, and giants used to captivate me. My personality due to my avid interests in fairy-tales was always not pleasing. I wore thick glasses and was physically weak. And whenever a bully tried to harass me I used to cling to the hope that a fairy godmother would rescue me! How ignorant I was at that time never realizing that my bizarre belief was never what it should be.
Now I really get nostalgic whenever I think of those golden years. Now when I get bent down from work, I lean into these memories and think how these fantastic tales of chivalry, fairies, witches, ogres etc. has stirred my life from surrealism to realism. Now when I speak of my passion for fairy-tales to my friends they give me a mixed look of confusion and mock. But that’s ok, I know it does sound weird, but the main aspect is that imagination is not just for kids and children, when someone tells that imagination is for the dreamer, don’t even believe them a bit. What was it but imagination that made Magellan to circum-navigate the world, Columbus to discover the Americas and West Indies. I am not saying that fairy-tales are true but these incredible tales gives us the gift of imagination. Imagination not only fascinates us but also gives us the strength to live in reality. When Jules Verne wrote the book “Twenty thousand leagues under the sea” every one thought that he was a writer of chimerical tales meant only for children but in due time submarines were invented that changed the face of the world. Hence it is these fascinations that pave the way to reality. If fascinations or imaginations would not had been then we still would have been barbarians as our ancestors were. In fact the truth is that all the major discoveries, inventions and explorations had been possible because of imagination.
The time that I spent in reading these fairy-tales isn’t wasted but gained because these fairy tales even though they are unreal but they gave me the gift to look beyond what’s possible because we still are uninformed about the difference between the possible and impossible, the impossible can still be possible and for that we need a new outlook in life that can only be provided by imagination. Why is a child so curious to know what’s going on around him? Well its because the child has the gift of fascination that gives him the curiosity and drive to know what’s going on around him. And the deterioration of an adult’s learning process is because of lack of fantasy and flight of imagination that is very necessary in order to get curiosity to learn new things and that’s when the learning process really gets an impetus and we begin to learn, to understand the world around us and that’s the growth of an adult’s renaissance that lasts for a lifetime. Therefore we should have a constant endeavor to look beyond and to have a constant curiosity just like a child so that we can accumulate as much knowledge as we can because after all knowledge is power and only then can we accomplish the hallowed transmutation of fantasy to reality and believe me this is one habit worth cultivating.
