Galciv and Stardock registration

I think you guys stink! And now I tell you why:

First I had to buy a Game with my hard earned cash and then after it really began to get boring after only a few hours of play I learned about an expansion pack!
I was REQUIRED to register with your lame excuse for a Web Site because the update of the game was not attainable without registering! I had to install an applet which I dont know and which is in NO WAY secure.
I believe that you did release an INCOMPLETE game intentionally and this is no good business behaviour.

I will tell all my friends and also people who aren't my friends about this petty behaviour and I am sure they won't buy your games at all!
Furthermore I will send emails to several Game-Magazines so that they can report about it.

Your way will be known to many people!
And I hope that NOONE buys your games EVER!

Btw.: The email account I have registered will be no longer valid in a few hours - It was only set up to help me fight SPAM!
Fill it up, I frankly don't care....

What you did really SUCKS!

The reason for registration is so you don't have to put the cd in your cd drive. This is one way to help fight piracy.lots of games require you to play with cd in drive which will cause your drive to fail prematurely, specially if you play for hours on end.

If you follow the route given by registering you will be entitled to all the updates every month as these developers listen to this comunity and will work with you to fix most bugs you run across. They will also release new updates, patches etc monthly. How many games do you know that will do that?None that I know of.

Take a look at some gaming communities and you will find that no developers from that game frequent their own communities to help answer questions or fix bugs. You generally get one patch and they are off to work on next project leaving you with an incomplete or buggy game.

Stardock does not SPAM our mailboxes as some gaming sites do.

Stick around and you will find this is the premiere gaming community.I have been here for several months and at first had several problems but thanks to many here who contribute to the overall community my problems along with many other peoples have been resolved.

You don't have to flame here to get attention but post a question and within a couple hours you will generally get several responces to help solve your dilema.

If you read some of the past posts you will find your petty grumblings wont have the effect you are trying to generate.

This is a wonderful game, and many people will defend it so be careful not to pi$$ them off or you could be removed to be never given another thought. So chill out and be polite and people here will bend over backwards to help you fix any problems you have.

Hmm,

your kind answer pretty much found me off guard. In fact I expected my post to be removed but now I find it still around and this is something I really did not dare to find.

Ok, I am ready to admit that I might have done an error in my first rage because I had to register, to be able to download a patch and this patch did not only destroy my Saved Game but also made the game unplayable because it kept crashing when I reached a certain position on the map.
It could be because I originally bought the german version of the game and after it got patched at least the ingame strings were english. Maybe I got a wrong patch version. The program Stardock on the other hand is supposed to patch the right version.

I am a bit .... dissappointed, but I will give it another try and look out for a newer patch or a workaround.

Thank you for hearing me out, even though I was fuming with anger!

Oh.. one last thing: As you can easily see, my email adress was NOT deleted. It would have been, if I had received SPAM which I have not :-)!

Jadawin:

Instability with the German version of the game is a known problem that has been addressed by the game developers. Recommend that you refer to the following thread:

http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GF&id=105281

FYI: You're entitled to your opinion, but you might want to try the tech support system before you throw in the towel. Stardock has implemented a lot of new ideas here, from the game design to the Stardock Central interface. New ideas often have a few kinks that need to be worked out. Stardock's technical support is outstanding in my experience, especially when compared to other gaming companies.

from what I have read the german version is made by some other developer that kinda does all the translations.Sometimes this will cause eerors to appear that are not associated with the original English version. Please check the above link and several of the above mentioned problems will probably dissappear.
I know sometimes being new to a community is not what you expect as you will see here.I hope you enjoy this game once your version gets straightened out.Carielf is game problem solver from Stardock. If you have problems you can reach her at [email protected].
Please send her a report about any difficulties you may have and she will become your hero like she is to many of us.

The publisher Strategy First is in charge of translation and the release and selling of the game outside of the U.S. Stadock really has no control over the game in Germany

Hello all and thank you very much for your support.

To make GalCiv run, i simply did the following:

Uninstalled the game via Stardock
Installed the game, the update and the Multimedia-Files via Stardock.

AFAIK the game now runs perfect. The bugs which are mentioned in the forum I did not see so far.

As you can see, I do know a wee bit of english, so I am not concerned about having a english version now. On the contrary the translations I heard and read (voices over rendered scenes and the ingame text) are not what I would call "inspired". Its like a very young fellow was asked to make the translations and he thought that the tone should be "joking" a bit "ironic" and overall boring.

In fact the english version really inspires me and makes the game much more fun as the german version.
Well we Germans often found out (at least my friends and me) that translated english games do not come across as do their pendants in the original language.

All of your base are belong to us :-)
Someone set us up the bomb

I wish all of you guys a nice game-experience.

Oh... one more last thing I miss with GalCiv: Networksupport - I wish I could play it here when my friends visit me on 2 Computers - Just like Masters of Orion. Is this functionality about to get implemented?

Have at them

Ok,

well I am having a problem with registering the game because I bought it in a shop rather than online. The serial number is rejected when I try to register it, and after several weeks I am struggling to get a reply from you guys. I have been through the rage stage and am hoping that someone can spell it out to me.....

I am using the uk version of the game, and would very much like the latest patch.

Phil - just an obvious - which you have already tried -
the serial is case sensitive and "O" might look like 0, but isn't.

If that doesn't help try to start a new thread - that will probably get you attention faster.

Phil, e-mail your serial number and a note of explaination to [email protected].  He'll be able to help you out.
