Minnesota Smog...BOO!

So the good news is that I am in the middle of my second commute via bike this week. I can't even remember the last time I was able to bike twice in a week due to the cold weather and other nasty winter elements.

The bad news is that the MN air quality, due to a number of weather factors, is the worst it's been in 25 years. Now the poor air quality we're experiencing right now will lift soon, but I can definitely feel the effects in my lungs from biking 40 miles (thus far) in it. Though that probably is combined with the fact that I haven't biked this much in a long time. Today the warning is only moderate, but outdoor exercise is not recommended and the last couple days it was deemed unhealthy and dangerous for everyone. I wonder if this is what it's like for people living in Pheonix, New York, or LA everyday...ick!

Maybe you could wear some sort of mask to filter some of the smog out? Or a oxygen tank so your not breathing any of it

Reflecting now, I think that I did indeed feel the effects of the smog here in the T.C. Last night after my run, I didn notice that my usual runners cough had turned deeper. For a second there, I thought I was getting sick. Hopefully this sunshine will help get rid of this nasty air. Lets see how it treats me today after my run around Calhounie...

happy trails for those of us enjoying the 40 something degrees right now in Minnesota (which by the way, is highly NOT condusive to the St. Paul Winter Carnival!!) Christ, what month is it? This is too good to be true...except for the air...but really, who needs that anyway...

I was just watching WGN news from Chicago in my office, and I heard weatherman Tom Skilling announce that Chicago was under an air pollution advisory. It's weird because I don't think I've ever heard of that happening in Winter.

And now it looks like our cold spell is going to return to give us another taste of winter...oh well, at least I can add on to the snowfort I've been making with the kids this afternoon.

WLC - I'm sure the poor air quality is nothing that a few hours in the smoke filled uptown bar can't fix.
