"The evidence is piling up; everything fits," Dr. Robert Thomas, a glaciologist from NASA who is the lead author of a recent paper on accelerating sea-level rise, said as the Chilean Navy plane flew over the sea ice here on an unusually clear day late in November. "Around the Amundsen Sea, we have surveyed a half dozen glaciers. All are thinning, in some cases quite rapidly, and in each case, the ice shelf is also thinning."


Does anyone think global warming is not happening? Is it because of human made polution or just a natural progression in nature. Maybe a natrual progression helped by humans?

A bunch of idiots in the Northern hemisphere may think it's not happening...but if they got off their collective arses and travelled south they'd get an education....

Australia is on PERMANENT water restrictions.

Garden sprinklers are being collected/bought to be added to our Museums so future generations will know what they WERE.

Global warming is indeed happening. The drasitc changes in the weather over the years (increases in the number and severity of storms over the last decade) shows evidence of this.

There's this great movie called 'Day After Tomorrow' that you should watch. It might give you an idea about what is possible due to global warming.

LOL, I bought the movie...I admit it's quite amusing....but it's a major exaggeration.

I believe that global warming is a natural process....but is getting a bit of a push from human activities (polluting the atmosphere with greenhouse gases from burning fossil fuels and what-not).

(Isn't doing research papers on global warming fun? )

Well I do think global warming is happening. Im sure we humans have something to do with it. Some say meaning scientist the earth is over due for the axis to change ever so many thousands of yrs plus in both north and south pole from drillings they have found trees and fruit trees and other vegatation and other fossils. So as to weather or not this is a progression in nature. It is probable could be the lost of polar caps melting to the sea and the sea rising there will be lost of land and gainning of new land and could be leading to the shifting of the axis and so a whole new world. But yes global warming is happening just check the records of temps in your area over the last 40 or50 yrs I think you will see and to my memory it is getting warmer and season are changing not as long or shorter than they use to be. Some say and have been saying for a long time that the earth is slowing down meaning more exposure to warmth.Ozone doesnt help either .

Seriously, the Great Lakes here in the midwestern United States have been dropping at record rates. Water levels down every year.

Something is definitely different.

pictoratus.....put simply....glaciers melt....higher air temps evaporate water....alters weather, storms, etc.....ad nauseum.

Current 'non-global warming' will see Perth, Western Australia uninhabitable to humans in around 50 years assuming current climate change-rate that is 'not' happening.

I doubt if I want to exist in an average temp of over 50c ....currently it's 37c in Melbourne....that's about enough.

Australia's average waterfall...is 5 inches....not per day, or per month.

But it's OK, you see....cos someone said it isn't happening....

Made by the glaciers, maintained by rainfall, and connected to the oceans via the St Lawrence seaway and the Mississippi river. Cool trip to make. People do it all the time.

St Lawrence Seaway is visible. On the other side it's Lake Michigan/Chicago River/DesPlaines River/Illinois river/Mississippi River/Gulf of Mexico. Navigable the entire way for barges.

was a over the road driver once drove all around them on the us side and once in ontario did not know the st lawrence was west to east its been awhile since I look at a map I knew the cheasapeke did and one in oreagon st john but any way been land locked for about 15 yrs could of forgot so thanks

Well...I for one do not need scientists to tell me about global warming. If you've lived on this planet for any length of time you can see it for yourself. In the area I live there "used to be" 4 distinct changes of seasons...so distinct you could almost set your watch to them....now there are only 2. And it's only common sense that when you continue to clear the earth of trees that produce and filter our air, and continue to put gases into the air, something has to give.

I have no doubt that sooner or later this planet will shake us all off like a bad case of fleas and start all over.

Start over? Some of us believe that we were created you know...

According to a recent study published in Geophysical Research Letters, the discharge rate of three important glaciers still remaining on the peninsula accelerated eightfold just from 2000 to 2003. "Ice is thinning at the rate of tens of meters per year" on the peninsula, with glacier elevations in some places having dropped by as much as 124 feet in six months, the study found.


Well something is happening and it has been for years. While human contributions to the Earth's global environment has been happening since the industrial age, no one can say that it is good for the Earth.

In other words, it does not help that we cut down trees, add pollution in multiple ways by the metric ton per day and so forth.

Also keep in mind that we had a huge earthquake a month ago that scientist agree that moved the Earth off its axis minutely (and we spin a few hundredths of some milliseconds faster). Nothing on its own, but might not help much in the long run.


I do not think this is a liberal concoction (although Liberals do mention it way more often when a republican is in office).

Something is going on and instead of waiting for proof that we are the reason why, we should actually figure out a way to stop what we do to add to it. This way we will never know if it was us or nature but I rather it be this was then finding out we do and its to late.

I wonder if the so called experts have ever heard of the earths wobble, which takes about 20 tgousand years to complete. The wobble will cause each pole to draw nearer the sun at the wobble draws towards its positive or negitive apexs. About ten to twelve thousand years ago a part of Antarctica were clear of ice and the north polar area the ice increased.

Besides these experts are under 100 years old and weather records are only a little older... who is to say that global warming is not a normal event that occurs on this planet.

Everything works in systems large or small. We have daily weather (night and day), annual weather (spring, summer, winter, fall),
and weather patterns can even be predicted over a 50 year span. It is only logical to think that "global warming" is part of a greater atmospherical system beyond our comprehension right now. Humans most likely had a part in speeding things up, but we will never know. The Earth will be fine for along time after human civiliztion is gone. We have only hurt ourselves and most life forms on the planet. I say most because we as humans don't know squat. Heck, man actually believed the earth was flat and still believe that size doesn't matter.

-9C/16F snowing again....someone figure out how to change the jetstream and blow a little Aussie heat this way. I'll spend around $2600 in heating oil and burn a cord of wood to keep this old farm house above 60F when it gets really cold out. I'd be better off moving to a warmer climate....$2600 would surely buy a whole lotta ice cold beers

I agree that global warming is happening, but I think it's part of the earth's inherent life cycle. Greenhouse gases....aren't most caused by vegetation?

I too think the best solution is change nothing of my human activities, continue to polute, close my eyes, put my fingers in my ears and shout "It isn't happening! It isn't happening!"
