What are the minor races....?

G'day all....

I'm not (now)so inexperienced as the subject line may suggest, but I wanted it to stand out!

Can anyone provide an inventory of all the minor races (and hopefully, their strengths / weaknesses)

Off the top of my head...

I-League (fairly rare)
Alexians (seem common)
Fundamentalists
Carinoids (seem common)
Scottlingas (anyone else think this is a stupid name?)

mmm I know there are others, but can't remember...:notsure:

Thanks all, Stupot

Ahhh. Remebered the Sanderians (seem to occur fairly rarely)

BTW, I wish there were more minor races in each game....and they were more (a bit) expansionist.

I have no idea if these are all spelled right, but here are the ones I can name off the top of my head:

Venge (terrorists, will bio-attack random planets until wiped out)
Calor (also terrorists I think)
Debinians
Paladians
Sanderians
Alexians (always at start, culture flip easy)
Carinoids (always at start, almost never flip)
Scottilingas
I-League (actualy have influence)
Fundamentalists (hate evil)

There are more, but most of them don't have anything special about them.

Many of the minor races are named after employees at Stardock (Alex, Scott, Cari, etc.)

As far as I know, Alex-ians, Cari-noids and Scott-lingas all take their name from a developper.
Scottlingas seem to be part of the starting minors on bigger maps.
I-League happen everytime a planet is so unhappy that it revolts. You can get them more often if you use destabilisation or put your taxes too high.
Fundies are spawned randomly if there are evil empires out there.

Vegans is another, I think there are over 35 of them.

The Kwalasians (sp?) seem to always appear on gigantic maps, and they seem to always evolve into the I-league.

The Furan are another terrorist race not yet mentioned.

Dread Lords, Draginol, and Dark Arnor are supposed to be powerful evil forces that will dominate the galaxy if left unchecked. I say "supposed to be" since if the player is prepared he can extort enormous amounts of money from them.

Whole bunch of others too.

i think the Scottlingas on the Planet Arcturus is a very obscure Arthurian reference. but i iz crazy.

'lingas was a kinda dark age anglo-saxon kinda thing. you know, iclingas, baslingas.....etc etc. mainly anglian rather than saxon, i think....

though there is the Excalibur....

Here's one race you guys are forgetting: The Dmer.

I thought the Excalibur might have been a B5 reference.

Yes, he did. The reason I thought it might be a B5 reference is that the most powerful ship humans ever built was called the Excalibur.

I ran into the Venge today. Like the Draginol, they appear to be related to a random event, though I must have overlooked the significance at the time. There is more variance among minors on larger maps. Small maps, all you see is the Alexians and Carinoids all the time. Scottlingas are the third "starting minor" if the map is large enough, and Kwilasians the fourth. The rest seem to be tied to various forms of events, although some "take over" existing worlds while others automagically transform/terraform some ungodly rock into a habitable world, instantly.

More minors would unbalance the game. Having them expand beyond their one sector would make them majors. If a minor gets three or four planets, though, they can be fairly significant. And they are relatively stronger on smaller maps, too. Big maps, they get swallowed whole, time and again.

Minor's I've met:

Alexians
Carinoids
Scottlingas
Kwilasians
Sanderians
Paridians
Denebians
Vegans
Paladians
I-League
Fundamentalists
Venge
Draginol

Maybe a couple others who made a brief appearance and were too insignificant to pay attention to.

It's almost a shame we rarely see so many of those minors. It would be nice if we could get more random events that spew out factions and terrorists, it would certainly make things more intersting. Especially in gigantic maps, there is room for some extra factions and sides to spice things up.

Maybe it's possible to hook up destibilization to the chance a totally new, random group comes forth. Destibilize an evil empire to bring up the Fundementalists. yey!

Speaking of minor races, am I the only one who thinks limiting them to 1 sector is a bad idea. Especially for the I-League. It would be cool if the I-League and Fundamentalist would actually try to grow. Sometimes they get quite powerful after the events that produce them. If they tried to grow from that point they could really become major powers to deal with!

I find only havingn 5 races in very large maps a little boring. I think if the minors, or the addition of new majors would make it a lot better.

Actually I'd like to see both. New majors as well as minor races that are willing to expand.

Brad said the minors would have limited expansion in 1.11

Is that the pay expansion in January or a patch coming before hand?
No 1.11 is the patch set to come out soon. It's done actually but some issues with the server have prevented them from putting it up yet. Then 1.12 is a patch set for a November release then after that is the expansion you have to pay for.

The fundamentalists are trying to take ove the galaxy in my current game. The random event that spurns them had also flipped almost half the universe to them which made the drengins go away totally and half the yor was consumed as well.Right now they are at war with everyone remaining and have a great toehold and the best ships in the game.Large map at crippling.
