My computer passed away :(

It happened on Tuesday actually. But i didnt write about it then cuz i had other thoughts in my mind.
But now, i'm starting to miss MY desk, with my personal space and more than anything MY computer.
It started acting funny a while ago. I would press the button to turn it on, and it would be on but the screen wouldnt react before turning it off then on then off again a numerous number of times.
And then on Monday, when it was on a little window popped up in the screen saying in some really geekly language that i had to re-install windows otherwise my computer would be fucked. I didnt think much of it and ignored it and continued working on my PC till the end of the day. Everything was fine.
But on Tuesday... sobs... The computer wouldnt work at all. Monday was the last time it was on, and Tuesday it just wouldnt work. We called the technician (who was supposed to come on Monday because of the strange message, but of course didnt show up, what a dick!). And all he said was, it'll cost more to repair it than to buy a new one.
So now i'm working (and blogging) on the Janet's ex computer (the lady that resigned a while ago). And i dont like it here. Plus my work is on my computer, and the technician hasnt come back with it. Which is a bit of a pain considering it's got late payments to follow up, special files containing letters i use everyday, and other tools like that. Luckily we have a network, and most of my daily work is saved on our boss' computer (thank God for that!). But my stuff is important too
I should have had a back up system, damn it!
I also had some pictures saved and now they're all gone
Oh well, have to wait for the technician...

But you were a bit vague about the problem, maybe the hard drive is ok and the data could be copied off it? And a backup policy at work might help. If everything is networked it could be as simple as copying stuff across the network so it's in more then one place. Course then you have to make sure each place it's in is a secure enough place for the information in question, but it's something to think about. Once the technician has finished his stuff you should hold a funeral for the computer, and thank it for it's long service
You did all that?? Wow! I'm impressed!!! I actually never thought they'd 'find' me by stumbing into my blog one day till i read lobsterhunter's blog. But i think from you're information that i'm quite safe. They wouldnt guess that island_gurl is me if they ever did. Unless they type their name, and find one of my articles (i've been using real names). Oh well, doesnt really matter, i suppose.
