My computer passed away :(

It happened on Tuesday actually. But i didnt write about it then cuz i had other thoughts in my mind.

But now, i'm starting to miss MY desk, with my personal space and more than anything MY computer.

It started acting funny a while ago. I would press the button to turn it on, and it would be on but the screen wouldnt react before turning it off then on then off again a numerous number of times.

And then on Monday, when it was on a little window popped up in the screen saying in some really geekly language that i had to re-install windows otherwise my computer would be fucked. I didnt think much of it and ignored it and continued working on my PC till the end of the day. Everything was fine.

But on Tuesday... sobs... The computer wouldnt work at all. Monday was the last time it was on, and Tuesday it just wouldnt work. We called the technician (who was supposed to come on Monday because of the strange message, but of course didnt show up, what a dick!). And all he said was, it'll cost more to repair it than to buy a new one.

So now i'm working (and blogging) on the Janet's ex computer (the lady that resigned a while ago). And i dont like it here. Plus my work is on my computer, and the technician hasnt come back with it. Which is a bit of a pain considering it's got late payments to follow up, special files containing letters i use everyday, and other tools like that. Luckily we have a network, and most of my daily work is saved on our boss' computer (thank God for that!). But my stuff is important too :( I should have had a back up system, damn it!

I also had some pictures saved and now they're all gone :( Oh well, have to wait for the technician...

Is no fun losing data But you were a bit vague about the problem, maybe the hard drive is ok and the data could be copied off it? And a backup policy at work might help. If everything is networked it could be as simple as copying stuff across the network so it's in more then one place. Course then you have to make sure each place it's in is a secure enough place for the information in question, but it's something to think about. Once the technician has finished his stuff you should hold a funeral for the computer, and thank it for it's long service

Did it get infected with spyware?

I unknowingly had a ton of spyware on my computer and I was confused as to why it wouldn't work. I was almost in tears because I had a school project I really needed to get started on in 3 weeks and without the web to research on, I would be screwed.

My computer eventually did get fixed (with plenty of anti-spyware programs added on). However, it hasn't been the same since.

IG - I read on lobsterhunters blog that you were hiding but I remembered you'd posted pictures of yourself, your friends and your boyfriends ex gf. It got me thinking about whether they could be found.

So I googled She's all That, and She's all that I'm all crap -- I looked through the first 10 or 12 pages but you didn't come up
I tried All I want for Christmas - got nothing
and your latest - My computer passed away got nothing either.

Typiing in Island Gurl 12 - with spaces and no hypens or underscores got Iamheather's blog and typing in Island_gurl12 got you straight away.

typing in general words cyclone kerry got nothing abut you first the first 11 pages but theres a cyclone on us - got you first go right at the top and then again at number 3.

You're probably going to get lots of referrals because I'm sure you would be found somewhere in there I just stopped looking around 10 pages.

Hopefully noone you know accidently finds you by googling

PS - sorry to hear about your computer,

Danny, i'm a bit vague about the problem because i'm totally computer illeterate... All i know is that the technician said what he said But yeah we're waiting to know if the hard drive is ok or not. There's only back up on our boss' computer. I guess each one of us should make sure we make our on back up. I'll start doing that from now on.

Dusk - Spyware? Mmmh, i have no idea. I really dont know what happened. It's not like i was working on somthing, or doing something on the net when the warning showed up, only when i turned it on. So i find it really weird. But could be spyware, probably.

Trina, You did all that?? Wow! I'm impressed!!! I actually never thought they'd 'find' me by stumbing into my blog one day till i read lobsterhunter's blog. But i think from you're information that i'm quite safe. They wouldnt guess that island_gurl is me if they ever did. Unless they type their name, and find one of my articles (i've been using real names). Oh well, doesnt really matter, i suppose.
PS - sorry to hear about your computer, Thanks for even stopping by trina

Nah from what I have read it's much worse than that. I can't be sure on what it is, since there's too many possibilities.

Losing a computer is disheartening. Make sure to give yourself time for proper mourning. Is there surely no chance for resuscitation?

Heather, he he, i am still waiting an answer from the technician. We're gonna call them back this morning to find out what the hell they've been doing with it so far.

I'm not hoping for resucitation, but hopefully its hard-drive will be transplanted into another one...
