Adam Duritz wanted "Accidently In Love" to fit the vibrant animation of Shrek 2, according to The Oklahoman: "Animation presents a world that is far more brightly colored than the one we live in, and (that's) why they're fun to watch."
The lively, enthusiastic "Accidently In Love" finds Duritz falling for a woman he didn't intend to have feelings for. His girlfriend notices him staring off into space and she wonders if something's wrong. He doesn't know. All he can answer is that he's in love. ("So she said what's the problem baby/What's the problem I don't know/Well maybe I'm in love (love)/Think about it every time"). He's never experienced love before and doesn't know how to deal with it. ("How much longer will it take to cure this/Just to cure it cause I can't ignore it if it's love Despite his unfamiliarity with the emotion, he knows what's he's feeling. (love)/Makes me wanna turn around and face me but I don't know nothing 'bout love").
In the chorus, he realizes love is something everyone wants ("come on, come on/
Cause everybody's after love"). He's falling hard and fast like a snowball and gushes about how beatiful he sees the world now. ("So I said I'm a snowball running/Running down into the spring that's coming all this love/Melting under blue skies"). Finally, he admits he's in love with her and geniunely enjoys the emotion ("Never ever end of all this love/Well I didn't mean to do it/But there's no escaping your love").
Duritz works in the fairytale aspects of Shrek into the next chorus ("Come on, come on/
We were once/Upon a time in love"). For Shrek and Fiona, "Accidently In Love" is their song. Shrek fell first without meaning to while it took Fiona some time. It also works as a stand-alone song with its few references to fairy tales.
