Have you ever cried at work?

I have. I'm not afraid to admit it, even if i sound like a wuss to some of you. But to admit it to people i know would be harder which is a bit contradictory when you think i'm publishing on the net that i cried at work but i wouldnt share that with people i know.

Anyway, i'm straying away from today's subject which, let me remind you, is HAVE YOU EVER CRIED AT WORK?

I dont know how many times i've cried at work, i make it sound like it happens every fortnight, but thank God not :) The 1rst time i did was because of my boss. I had finshed 10 files, and all he said was "it's all wrong you have to do them again" and he sent me back to my desk. I was so frustrated i went for a walk with tears of rage running down my cheeks. I called a friend who came and cheered me up and i felt better about myself. Eventually i talked to my boss about the job i did, and proved him i did a correct work and he misjudged it which after consideration he agreed to.

2nd time, was because of Darren, we were on the edge of breaking up. I read one of his emails at work, and rushed to the ladies' to have a big good cry.

Another time was because i just talked to my Mum on the phone and my Dad's health was going worse. I was on the phone with a kleenex. That's the only time my co-workers saw me crying, but they were kind enough not to ask any nosy questions.

So how about you, JUs? Did you ever cry at work?

I somehow have the feeling this wont bring many answers...

I can't remember for sure if I did cry at work. If not, I know I came very close more often then I'd like to admit. But I did cry on the trip both too and from work almost every day for a month or so. Then I quit the job. Funny thing was most of it wasn't work, it was the crazy relationship I was just leaving but not wanting to. And that job being the dishonest mess it was didn't help any.

no wonder you would quit the job Danny. I remember crying on the way back, because of relationship issues as well, damn how i hate it when the effects of an emotional breakdown hit you at random times with an intesity that should be rated on the richtler's scale...

I was working as a manager of a portrait studio just before Adrian had to leave for basic training and we had never spent more than a night apart before. I was so scared about him joining the Army and the thought of him being away for 10 weeks was so upsetting to me (ha ha ha, seems silly now). I cried so much at work . . . I had to hide it because portrait studios are happy, joyful places but it was so hard. My boss would usually visit a couple of times a month and he and I talked a lot and were sort of friends (as much as you can be friends with your boss) and I remember one time when he was there and I was just crying and crying. He hugged me for a long time and told me to go hide out in the back so and he would deal with all the customers . . . he left and told me he would be right back . . . he came back with a Hershey's bar for me. That made a bit of an impression on me . . . it was a really kind way for him to deal with my inappropriate, unprofessional weepiness. He was alright.

Aww, that's so cute actually. Never think of yourself as silly Brandie, i've thought that about myself so many times until it hit me that i was human and had every right to react the way I was. We're not robots

When my friend came over to comfort that 1st time he got me a can of coke. Dont know if it was a good idea since i was sooo upset and angry to have a dose of cafein in addition to those feelings Chocolate is the best remedy i've found out

I cried at work when...

1. I found out about the death of a close friend
2. My sister gave birth to my first neice
3. I found out my Mum had cancer
4. I was going through a messy, ugly, name-calling break-up
5. I was missing my wife heaps and she called to tell me how much she loved me
6. My boss had been riding me for months and I just cracked under the pressure (I think this might have been a mini-breakdown)

I'm sure there are probably other times, but I can't recall them at the moment.

Cheers,

Maso

I have cried a few times...
I was so physically ill once that I just started weeping..needless to say , I was sent home...and it was a bit awkward because it was in front of my students....they made a get well card for me the next day, which i thought was sweet.

Another time, like you...it was about "boy troubles"....lol...my b/f and I talked on the phone during a break, and we ended up arguing, and sensitive me started getting teary eyed; i was glad no one was around.

I remember one time almost crying purely out of being so stressed out about personal ANd work problems...I managed to pull myself together and finished the day....also, I cried in the parking lot when I found out a great aunt of mine passed away...i kept cool in front of coworkers, and then just broke down when I told my b/f about it over my cell phone.

dynamaso - thank you for sharing all this I'm sorry you had to go through hard times like that AT work. (Happy times for the birth of your niece )

InBloom - Sounds like you had some really nice students at that time. Aah, boy troubles, why cant we just erase them from reality while we're at work??

You guys, I really thought this article would be a total flop (as in no answers at all). I've never seen any of my coworkers cry at work so i thought i was really an exception and it never happened to anyone really. Thank you so much for proving me wrong!

I have cried at work. Mostly, from stress related things. I was a store manager for Wal*Mart when I found out my father had been in an accident on a business trip. He was here in Houston and I didn't even know it until the hospital found my name and number in his cell phone. I burst out the front door crying and running for my car to get to the hospital. My district manager was shocked and quite angry at first, but he soon understood.

There have been several other times. I have even had a customer of Wal*Mart make me cry, and that takes a lot. I am used to the shit the public dishes out to retail workers, but this man actually physically pushed two shopping carts full of merchandise into my stomach while cursing me and threatening me. I cried then.

You are not alone dear.

Heather, i can understand what you felt when you heard about your Dad. When my Mum told me she didnt know if my Dad would make it or not we were both in tears. I felt so helpless being far from them. I'm so happy he's doing ok now. But how about your Daddy? How is he now?

Thatoneguy, I have a huge smile every payday, he he he

I think the real question here is have I ever not cried at work? I cry so much I'm usually dehydrated. Sometimes I have to take a nap and my coworkers find me under my desk with a blankie and a bottle of water. Ok, just kidding. I have cried at work before, but not for a long time. The challenge is just to get someplace to be alone before they see you.

Cordelia your comment made me laugh! Where do you work at, what do you do?

Yeah, i never want to let people see me cry, so when i feel tears sting my eyes, i try to roll them back in until i get to the bathroom, lock the door, and let them flow.
