why pay for beta??

Why do I have to pay 30$ extra to buy something I do not want in order to get the beta for GalCiv Extended Galaxy to play around with? In Holland this is called coupled selling (koppelverkoop) and is illegal. I am sure the case would be hard to make in this case, but there is a reason for this law. I also feel it goes against the year long upgrades guarantee I got when I bought the game.

I feel blackmailed ... anyone else??

You are not paying for the beta. If you join Drengin.net, you get alot of stuff and the priveledge to download the beta and use it. If you don't want it, wait till it's finished...pretty simple. No blackmail in my book. Just someone who wants the beta and can't get it because he's not in the *club* and won't join. You'll have it soon enough.

Theres nothing in the year long upgrade that said you would get betas for free. I think it's better to pay for the beta rather than the final version, you'll eventually get the expansion for free. It's not really that long either. And really you aren't being blackmailed at all since you aren't being forced to pay.
