GalCiv Demo : Military Generalship?

Hello,

I just downloaded the GalCiv demo, which is advertised as having an emphasis on "Military Generalship", yet I cannot figure out how to attack a planet or even build a corvette-class ship. Am I doing something wrong?

You have to research the tech first and develope your planets and spread your galactic empire

I don't think the Demo allows you to build corvettes as when I had it I researched corvette tech and I still couldn't build corvettes
