nuf said, I will show him the error of his ways. He did say someone else put it on his computer and he was pretty green to the whole thing. Thats no excuse but maybe he will actually here what I have to say.

Perhaps you could inquire as to why he would choose to aquire a copy of any software via warez instead of just paying for it?

Politely questioning someones integrity in a situation like this usually sends the message clearly and keeps things civil at the same time.

Integrity can walk in all places and cannot be taken from you unless you give it up.

Just a thought.

i look at it like this ... software is a posession or product ...i personally wouldnt want anybody breaking in to my house or my buisness and taking things .. then claiming the symantics of the "Laws" gives them the freedom to do so...i HAD a friend that had the "it isn't illegal til ya get caught" attitude.(now hes long out of my life )...

HONOR is not something forced on you.. it's a frame of mind ...it's knowing whats rite and wrong .. then doing whats rite by choice, even when you know you wont get caught .

I understand, but it makes your nick seem in contradiction to what it's supposed to mean.
But anyway, about the main topic, right and wrong are not always so clear-cut. It has a lot to do with your own environment (neighbourhood/friends/family/etc).  Even if the law says one thing, if nobody you know obeys that law, chances are that you won't obey it either. Take speeding as one example. Or j-walking.  Montreal (my city) probably is the j-walking capital. Sometimes you can't even drive downtown because there is pedestrians just about everywhere crossing the street anywhere no matter what color the light, or if it's even a corner.  Tell a pedestrian in Montreal that's it's illegal, and they'll look at you like you just escaped form a mental institution. They know it's illegal, but nobody cares.
The use of warez or MP3's can be similar. Whenever I mention to people I know that downloading mp3's is illegal, I get asked what planet I live on. Everybody does it.
So, anyway. I'm not saying that it's right. I'm just saying that approaching somebody who downloads MP3's or warez with the "you are a criminal" attitude will solve nothing, and will probably make the other person react in the opposite way as they should.

By the way, no offence intended, but trying to make sure that what I write has no spelling mistakes is also part of what I consider "honour".

paxx ..... honour would be an incorrect spelling of honor in the US, and HG is from the US.

But I wasn't refering to "honor" but other words are not "rite".

And I am with paxx on this actually, he seems to mirror my thinking on this point.

And I am US and spell Theatre, labour, harbour. Offence to me was something done wrong like a law violation, and offense was like "He smells bad (offenssive.) wait there are two consonants there an n and an s so does that make the s singular?

Nope....'colourful' or 'colorful' .....

laws like j walking and such are designed for your safety .. if you break that law .. the only one who gets hurt is you ...software piracy goes beyond injuring you ...it takes away from the developers.. and/or company who made it. these people worked hard long hours to design the stuff. and i believe they deserve compenstaion. not only does it cheat the dev's out of hard earned $, but it stiffles the dev's ability to make improvements to the software and not to mention if they dont get enough $ they may have to quit working on it and drop the application's development all together...

also in a worst case scenario, bankrupt them...many dev's put their lives savings in to trying to make an idea a reality. to take their dream and then not give fair reciprocation is not cool..

and yes at times i may mis spell a word here and there . but i think it should not be what is focused on here ..if ya want, make a "HG King of Typos" thread...
