Tip for free money and influence

Something I've noticed is that when I'm allied with someone who I can't get to end a conflict with another civ's ally is that, if my diplomacy is high enough, I can get some goodies (cash or influence - sometimes even tech) for repeatedly making peace treaties. Basically every time they make an agressive action, I can ding em for credits. I'm not sure if this is a bug or not, but it's pretty handy to be able to take all your enemies cash and influence if you can't stop them from attacking. :D

They can begin to wear you down and replacing defenders then starts eroding research and so on....

Sometimes ally wars can be a pain so I really think before I ally.

Yeah, the mechanism for allying is pretty borked - but if they're at war with you anyhow, it's handy to be able to make them pay for your war against them.

IS there any point to alliances?

I allied with the Altarians last game, and I STILL had to pay them to declare war... they weren't doing it automatically.

Some allies they were.

You gotta research the tech, and then get them to "close" - not warm, not friendly, CLOSE. Then you may have to bribe them to take the alliance if they are stronger than you.

Miguel, did you give em a turn or two? My allies always come in to defend me...

I think I gave them one turn.

Do you get some kind of message from them saying they joined the war?

Hmm - as I rack my brains (I can't get alliances often anymore - penalty of playing at masochistic), I seem to recall that they declared after the first combat event - ie. a "shooting war", not just a state of war. Does anyone else have a clearer memory?

They come to help but I didn't see a pattern as to when they would help in a war.
I'll check to see when my Torian allies are going to drag me into the current war against Altarians...
