First off, this didn't answer my question. Secondly, I don't know what your problem is that you "read into" something I said as being "validation" or "stand-offish", but neither were included or behind anything I said in this post.

I was simply asking questions. I needed to know whether or not, with the skills I have, this program and learning how to skin would be difficult.

Now I'm being "stand-offish", and you need to take your damage somewhere else, before you start judging other people due to you being over-sensitive and reading into every question someone asks. The attempt to sound overly-intelligent on your part is ridiculous, and you making something "personal" out of something that is not is a problem.

Now, are there any adults here who can answer and adult question in an adult manner? I'd appreciate any information I can get.

If "proficient in DHTML4" means that you have a good master of javascript and/or VBScript, then the coding aspect of Desktop X should be a short learning curve for you.  Then again, you can do simple objects without any coding at all. Only if you want to start getting into more advanced interactivity that javascript or VBScript needs to be used.

Tell you what, lets go through your post and see exactly what I've said that is so offensive, childish and otherwise missed the mark.

I've been reading up as much as possible on DX, but since the free version doesn't allow it, I have no idea what it takes. [I just wanted to know how difficult it is, technically speaking, to use the program to create your own desktop themes and impliment them? Do you have to know any in-depth coding? I'm proficient at DHTML4 and working with Photoshop, but that's about it, so I'm curious if it would be worth my purchasing or not.

You are proficient at DHTML4 so Scripting should not be an issue picking up on or Java for that matter?
It is explained in the documentation very clearly and there is information on DexktopX on the DeskTopX web site.

Though from your other post about the number of items for download not exactly being as advertised it doesn't shock me if you haven't.

My other question is just curiosity: how many people are using/how common is it becoming for people to use "active" desktops like this? Since I'm "new to the game", I've no idea, but while there is a great amount here, it's not enough to make me think this has really "caught on" yet with most people (or many just don't know about it/aren't interested

Far as I can see I answered part of your questions which you could not find the answer out for your self without expecting someone else to give you the answer.

I've no one to impress and do not worry about what others think so the trying to look intelligent comment of yours is inane (look it up).

Then again it might not be for you considering you seem to have a hard time grasping the obvious, oh and looking at the screen when browsing a Website also.

Now, on to answering questions:

I personally dont have much coding experience. I used to know html like the back of my hand, and I can do some xml, but in the couple dx themes I've made for personal use, I never needed the code. The coding really becomes an issue if you decide to make objects that have a specific function, such as weather objects and such.

The making of basic objects (shortcuts to folders, event triggers and stuff) is pretty easy. Making a new object requires two clicks, then all you have to do is configure it. Replace some images, tell it what to do OnClick etc. Not hard stuff. A few more objects later, and you've got yourself a theme.

DesktopX is a fairly daunting program for most beginner users. It has little in the way of a learning curve. Its basicly a cliff for the first-timer, and can be quite intimidating. No offence intended to anyone out there, but its basicly a geeks program. Its the ultimate in getting your computer's desktop to show you exactly what you need to see, when you want it too.

I would say, as a whole, that DesktopX will become more popular, as people look for the Windows equivalent to Dashboard. They will find, however, that DX is a far superior program.
