Two years ago in Australia scientists reported the first successful teleporting of a laser beam encoded with data from one location to another. There is a small downside, it basically involves making a copy which is then transported at the cost of 'losing' the original.

It occurs to me that if we should ever get to the unlikely stage of transporting atoms and then people it is not entirely a thing to be welcomed and that some method would be necessary to prevent unwanted intrusions. Long (and purposefully) lost relatives dropping in at awkward moments, spelling obsessives suddenly appearing over your shoulder and refusing to leave until you'd edited and re-posted your thread.

A wave of unexplained disappearances of confectionary and only the faintest hint of Catsan in the air to give a clue as to who may have took it. Dedicated thread followers will know that the cow with the parasol is far too busy trying to find new batteries for its flashlight at the outer ring of the Galaxy to appear in this post.

So given this glimpse into tomorrow's world now that teleporting is a reality - what price a firewall ?

Oh yeh nearly forgot about Old Crab (sorry) for OC it wouldn't be an issue - he'd use a scuttlecraft

I did consider that, I really did (the depths of this tragic waste of bandwith and mental energy just continues to astound me ) But wouldn't that both create drag and fail to protect her from the light and heat. Unless of course the cow is travelling backwards and using the flashlight to see where she's been.

In any event, regardless of E=mc2, I now have an image of a cow accelerating towards light speed at the outer rim of the galaxy pointing a fading flashlight at a multi-coloured parasol that's branded with the traditional Chinese symbol for KMart and asking anyone who'll listen "does my bum look big in this ?"

I have no idea whatsoever any of you are talking about but if I come across a cow on the way to town I will be sure to administer the proper request for blessings and offer respect....unless of course it refuses to stop chewing to accept...in which case I will quietly shine my little flashlight in the other direction as to not disturb its deep and obviously superior awareness of the texture and piquant flavor of the grass while concentrating on its second stomach with the mental tenacity only gifted to the most holy of cows.

And to bring this thread back on track Texan scientists have managed to dissassemble a cow and then transport it across town successfully.
It had nothing to do with photons or atoms - they were just feeling a bit snackish

Seeing as how cows are now banned from this thread, and the jist of it had to do with teleporting, I have a question in need of an answer. If a tooth crowned with gold from about 30 years ago, had to be teleported out of ones mouth, is that gold crown worth "teleporting " home with me?

I think those same words were spoken as passengers boarded a liner in Southampton on 10th April 1912. Oddly enough only four days later the two sciences, that of making solid objects disappear and that of the effects of reducing DHMO to below freezing point, combined rather spectacularly.

Footnote: Its amazing how once the cows have gone the amount of room that becomes available for the bull to spread itself.

While you all are on the subject of dangerous chemicals, there was a report on the news today (June 17th, 2004) that in California, they are thinking of regulating the amount of pollution caused by 120 lbs. per day, per COW manure, as it is adding dis-stink-ly to the smog problem out there! Must be caused by all that DHMO they swallow daily!

/me will now shut up about Cows (here anyway! ) and return this highly, uh, well, highly something thread to you all!

I don't know Mr. Jafo....I didn't see that part, and I can't get any of the news sites to come up on the comp tonight from Google....I've got the Zone Alarm Pro 5 version on here and it doesn't play fair with unknown sites. I had a problem getting the WC messageboard to show without freezing my whole comp. Fooey! Ah well, maybe if you try google with california cow manure pollution you can get to some of the news....and find out what the solution will be?!

Mr. Yrag....would I cause a problem, if I did that? I signed up for 2 more years of their service, and changed the registration number to the new version....then, it started freaking out on me. I can get to all the rest of WC, downloads, etc, but when I tried to go to the msgboard, it froze the server....and I'm on dial-up, so it was a long freeze! I contacted their support and they told me that I needed to add WC to the exception list and turn on cookies and ad blocking....which, I do, and I can get to the boards...however, it won't let me log into my isp mail service or anything when it is set that way. Do you know if anyone else had any problems with ZA pro 5? And thank you for the help!
