What if you shined a flashlight...

What if you shined a flashlight...

while going the speed of light?Would it shine any further?(or would the light just collect at the source and get REALLY hot)

/me *sees the simple solution to the car problem*

the speed of light limit, and the energy required to accelerate you applies to mass moving through space.

however, what about space moving through space? specifically, if you enclose the car in a local bubble of space time, that is cut off from normal space time, and then move this bubble though the bigger space time at the speed of light...

now if you turn on the headlights, the light moves away from you at c, since you are stationary inside your own bubble. of course, what it shows you and where it goes depends on the internal geometry of your bubble...

and yes, this is one of the underlying ideas behind warp speed travel which was designed purely to get to the chocolate faster than fuzzy!

MMMM, chocolate!

making the wild assumption that you have a car travelling at the speed of light, surely there are two far more important questions:

a) how long would it take fuzzy logic to catch you once he realised you had chocolate?

b) could you escape the wrath of Jafo for making a typo?

or to put it another way, is either force of nature capable of moving faster than the speed of light? they certainly seem capable of this, and fuzzy especially is known to exhibit time travelling tendencies, moving towards chocolate even before it is presence is discovered.

ahha!
/me *thinks laterally, inspired by Aleatoric saying chocolate*

if you are travelling at the speed of light, and were to emit tachyons, could you then see by the checkov radiation the emit as they escape your headlamps?

/me *wonders if anyone knows how to spell these words*
if not, this could get *very* confusing!

Apparently, one cannot escape the wrath of Jafo regarding *anything*

The infamous chocolate paradox of time travel! If Fuzzy gets your chocolate before you find it, was it ever even there?

Cherenkov radiation

Actually, you should be able to see the cherenkov radiation from your example.

The side effect of spending *way* too much time with nose buried in science texts

Aleatoric, we should apply ourselves to a real challenge! designing a Jafo proof suit!

as for fuzzy and chocolate, no paradox there at all. there is always a sign. normally he is lying around, looking smug and full, and licking his fingers to get the last traces of chocolate

so, given that the tachyons, by definition, are going faster than light, and that they can produce checkov radiation when interacting with other solid matter, then we have now designed the ideal headlights for travelling at light speed

however, how do you get to see what your headlights are showing you before you hit it???

according to https://www.wincustomize.com/msgboard.asp?BID=WC&id=282865 i am entitled to kidnap IR and use him as a cat bed! bonus!

I have my own theory on light. That is, light does not travel in normal space, it travels in sub-space. All we see is an exit from sub-space at the point light is intercepted. This will also explain why light can be both a particle and a wave - this is determined by the method of interception. It explains why light always appears to travel at 186000mps - that is just the exit velocity/time in sub-space no matter how fast you go, your speed relative to sub-space will always be zero because the faster you go, the more sub-space folds in front of you. And also explains why light, a particle of zero mass, can be bent by gravity - gravity is just a 'dent' in sub-space which the light particle will follow (in sub-space) altering its trajectory.

/me concludes that all other theories are nonsense and I'll take my Nobel prize in chocolate

Since the Nobel comes with a fairly substantial cash assignment, I'm guessing that the chocolate potential is quite high!

we should apply ourselves to a real challenge! designing a Jafo proof suit!

Is that even possible? Jafo the everpresent would merely fold the fabric of space and time and slip past any defence in order to fulfill his solemn duty

Unlike Fuzzy, I'm not sure how easily we can distract him with chocolate

I think I may be able to help

Oops meant to reduce that

lol

Hi feline!

Chocolate??? Oh My!!!! I suppose it's more than possible!

(that's just between you, me and the world!!!)

on the other hand....I must sadly purchase my chocolate like everyone else....and....

and.....

???????? Oh! CHOCOLATE

I get it

Jafo the omnipresent....has a modest ring to it....

Mrs _footsie_ - if I push too hard they'll wind up under my armpits and then I can't put my arms down

/me *totally puzzled*
this sounds like you have to much chocolate to carry...
its a long shot, i know, but i really cannot see what else you are talking about. however, dont worry, we know how to help you carry the chocolate!

/me *sigh*
purchasing chocolate should not be a sad experience! it is supposed to be a religious and joyous experience!
/me suspects traveling at light speed it to slow
we need to travel at Jafo speed! this is clearly an urgent emergency!

Seeing how this thread spans the universe of time, space and chocolate Has there been a time-zone change for WC or have I always been 1-hour ahead of the time posted on a post. It's 8:50ish PM here EST.

It could be that this thread somehow bent the space time continuum and now daylight savings is screwed up...or it bumped you into 1 hour into the future. It also could of always been like that, and you're only noticing it now...but I'm leaning towards the space time continuum thing...

Space time continuum, sounds like a good cover story , but I'm betting that I'm just finally noticing it now

Jafo, the omnipresent watcher of the board, gets distracted by a bit of chocolate.

At the same time, a flashlight is accelerated to the speed of light.

Jafo doesn't see the flashlight, but, out of the corner of his eye, he sees the photons that might have been emitted by the flashlight (one of which hits the chocolate before Jafo can finish eating it).

In a fit of anger at the photon contaminated chocolate, Jafo throws the chocolate at the flashlight, hitting it and knocking it off course.

Essencay is pulled through the resulting rift in the space time continuum and placed in his chair one hour earlier.

While Essencay is posting about the sudden time difference, Jafo, realizing the severe consequences of a space time rift on this board (of all places), snatches Essencay back into his proper time and seals the rift. The flashlight with the now burned out bulb is returned to I.R. Brainiac, with stern instructions to not let it get away again.

And in the frozen lands of Nador, they were forced to eat Fuzzy's chocolate, and there was much rejoicing!

through all this mathematical babble you all forgot one thing.

in outer space, if you shine a flashlight, you can not see the beam

unless you are watching it hit something, or you are looking at the source.
