Where did the rush go? - WARNING, another rant.

I was posting some links to wallpapers here on the msgboard because someone asked about witch program to use best. I also linked to 2 of my first wallpapers (or even better, my first digital art).
They were made in photoshop, looking back at it they look like.... ( here YOUR opinion, mine can''t be stated due to the family site issue )

I can remember I uploaded walls before but they all died in submission. When I saw my first wallpaper appearing in my library I got this feeling... I can still remember it very well, it was a feeling of joy, a moment of pride, because MY wallpapers made it. They did not came on a wallpaper site but they actually managed to get trough ''the wincustomize moderation'' ( thunder sound here ).
That feeling was such a motivation that I kept making walls.

I stopt making walls when the level of moderation went down. Lets face it, WC dasn''t have ''THE finest'' collection of wallpapers on the net anymore. I haven''t checked the wall library in a long time so I am not refering to any work in specific, but at the moment I feel like it that the wallpaper library is just a bunch of bad images packed togheter.

I know I am not the first one to say this but PLEASE, lets turn things back to normal. The wallpapers got out of control, they got out of control so badly that they had to be removed from the newest additions list.

I know I will be flamed because ''everyone should have a chance of uploading their wallpapers'' etc etc, but I don''t care.

Lets face it, nothing so special about it if your walls make it onto WC. You aren''t on of the 5% anymore, you are on of the many. (yes I know that its only 20% that gets trough now but still...)

For the last time, PLEASE ge it back to normal!

Styl, is it better or worse to go back to the way it used to be? You have some good points, but personally, I like it better the way it is now, before we used to get 40 "What happened to my wallpaper?" threads a day, the Admins used to get hate mail constantly...it seemed like too much work to have strict moderation, espcially for people who don't get paid to moderate them. Atleast they still have SOME moderation...and that's more than most sites.

Just my two cents...

I really miss the high level of moderation. I really appreciated when the level of acceptance was so high. I've almost commented on the same thing several times (after browsing the wall library), but I guess you got fed-up with it before I did. Admins, please don't take this as a bash, because it's not you people do a great job. I just miss the higher standard. Call me a hard-@$$, but I'd even like to see all the libraries moderated heavily.

Dunno about that. A few weeks ago I had a wallpaper rejected. Even though I have gotten a few hundred emails for it WC still didn't feel it was good enough. It was made by my girlfriend so I told her it was denied. I was kind of bummed for her because I was under the impression also that the wallpaper libraries were getting pretty full of no so good stuff. I started to search through the "wallpaper" libraries and I found that I was wrong. Then I looked into the bootskin and logon libraries and well then .......ummm, well, ummm lets just say, I wasn't nearly as impressed as I was with the walls. My point being that I am wondering if you, Styl, and others that have expressed their opinions, think of the wallpapers, bootskins, and logons, all as one library?

Hus, there are alot of people on the board who would love to help moderating, and then I am refering to some of the regulars. That really isn't the problem.

for the hate mails, just create an account '[email protected]' and buy a GOOOD spamfilter

/me is still in favor of a higher standard for the wallpaper section.

Does it really matter about the bootskins. They are not on the screen long enough to get an upset stomach.

But we have had this discussion every quarter. Even had a close vote and less moderation won.

Me! Didnt I already bring this up like 6 months ago?

/me is in favor of higher stands too

took me 30 pages and 2 hours to find something decent the other day. The wallpaper section is a joke.

A day or two ago there were over 70 walls in the queue....I performed a 'cull', as many had already had comments posted....and whittled that down to 22....with 3 getting through, the other approx 50 hit the cutting room floor.

To me, that's still pretty good ive moderation of the 'strict' sense....[or it was a day of particularly poor stuff ].

We're back to 4 pages of walls...[20 per page] so in the past day or two we have another 40 to 60 submitted.

The average is probably about 10 to 20 per day....over 3 years that'd make it about 20,000 or 25,000 walls in the library...so yes, it averages at about 1 in 4 or 1 in 5 that makes it through.

Note, however, that some days all of them are rejected.

We look for interesting or appealing walls.....fresh ideas....bit of fun, maybe....and those with real 'expertise'.

What dies a horrible death is yet another 'Windows XP'-emblazoned wall or version 6001 of 'shiny-orb-abstract-from-Bryce-gee-this-program-is-l337'.  When you already have a thousand or two....do you REALLY need another one, albeit with a new author name?

What we try to do is not necessarily kick what we think is 'horrible' just because it's not our personal taste...but approve 'some' as it is accepted that others will love them.

Moderation is not an easy task....easy is accepting [or rejecting] all that is submitted.  We chose to simply make it 'less hard' by not being quite so strict, that's all...

If you want a good wallpaper just type 'nuvem' in the search box - all the crap will disappear

Easy solution: get rid of the whole damn section - its been causeing nothing but trouble!

One thing that have "bothered" me for sometime also, is that people make a WB, right?!
Good, and with most of those WBs there comes a wallpaper....

Why the bleeding heck do most of them upload the wallpaper seperately?! Sheesh, why risk a rejection?! Just include it with the WB already!!

Doing that would also elliminate comments like "whereZZZZZ the waaLLLLLLLL?????????"

Close to the truth...but there are dozens of others [artists] of equal/similar 'quality'.....just not all are even close to that level of 'skill'....

But please....if you are bored, go fly a kite, reassemble a tea leaf, cure the common cold, ....just don't drool on a graphic tablet and waste the moderators' time.

"Hey, I was bored so I threw this together...not my best work, but hey." will guarantee instant rejection....

/me wonders how many of the 'n00bs' chose 'less moderation', and how many of the 'oldies' chose 'more'...

This pool was conducted after the standards were lowered somewhat.

Moderate them MORE! 377

Moderate them LESS! 118

Get rid of the wallpaper section entirely. 74

Moderate them SAME as now. 393

So the moderate them the same beat out moderate them more 16 votes. Less than 1000 people voted.

Less than 1k, huh?

Thats less than one tenth of one percent of all the regestered members weve got here! Not a very accurate poll if you ask me..
EH....most registered members don't visit these forums, etc.....and considering some of the names used as 'nicks' that's all for the good...
lets make a poll on the msgboard about it, wonder what will win...
Styl, we did and more moderation won. That was while the other poll was going on.

I think the message board should be moderated more, too. Posts in which the author can't spell.....well, just delete the entire thread

Hi all, I have been visiting this site, daily, since I "discovered" it a few years ago. I have enjoyed it tremendously, and have downloaded many windowblinds and walls. But I am really new as a subscriber, it was a financial thing. I love reading the message boards, but as far as technical stuff help, I couldn't contribute. Last night I read this post, and thought about it alot. In my opinion, the wallpaper section should stay. It is a great and wonderful area of diversity. I have always loved adni18's work, as well as nuvem, and many many others, so talented. I have also enjoyed and downloaded many others not as talented, and many times these authors get better, they grow, both by criticizm and applause. There are many people, that if they are rejected once, will stop trying, but there are many more, who will keep creating, and trying new ideas and so on. I am sure that when this was all new, there were few contibuters, but as the site and concept has grown, so has the number of contributers. If it did not grow, there would be no wincustimize.
The moderators have a really hard task, in picking out those who are accepted and those who are not, from so many that are uploaded each day. I enjoy the fact that all the walls I upload are not accepted, it gives me something to strive for.
Sorry to be sooo... long winded! Thank you all for your time!

Dumb Question
l337

I have seen this posted many times, but for the life of me, I can't figure out what it stands for. I figure most things out, but this one has me stumped. OK, so I Googled it, and I still don't know what LEET means.
I had same question a while back....If I'm right it's hacker talk for elite
Reply #25 Top

Yes, it means elite.  it's called "1337 speak"

But, back on topic, the walls are moderated a bit more than they were when that poll was around.  The walls might not be of your liking, but Kona is totally wrong saying that it is a "joke".  (People who live in glass houses should not throw stones, Kona)
