Yup, I got some real pleasant stuff today! He probably has a handful of names so he will just keep coming back. I suppose I will be a target everyday because I started this post. It really sucks that upstanding people are being crapped on and he gets to continue on with his fun day to day? >

Yes I noticed your admirers comments tonight. At least you're not alone, a couple of others have been singled out too. I noticed also that Klatuu's skin disappeared. I guess he had enough. I hate that cause I loved his work.

Melanie- it does no good to post that here....if you don't know the Admin addy's then post the link to this trash here and I'll take care of it.

I had to delete the above. Don't want anyone reading it. Although from the looks of it, the WP needs to be removed too!

Because China, it wasn't very nice. I will say now that I'm keeping my mouth shut on the subject from here.

Just wanted to say thanks to Jafo and any other admin that kept an eye out for sour posts. You have done a great job policing. Things feel a bit more secure.

Yes...I have been a little busy of late....seems there 'were' a new bunch of people who aspired to outdo each other in 'who's the most tactless'....

...what does it matter what someone's opinion is anyhow? Unless he/she's a respected/fellow skinner, the comments are just angry breezes in your day let them blow themselves over. You're all skinners for a reason: because you're GOOD and talented at what you do... a string of negative comments from some antagonistic users shouldn't devalidate your talents.

There's two kinds of people here at WC.. those who respect skinners, and those who are jealous

Well, ok..maybe not exactly, but most of that holds true.

Besides, when all is said and done, who looks bad? The skinner who received these negative comments or the troll who left them?

in short, just keep doing what you all do best: skin. Leave small people to have their small opinions, it's really inconsequential. [void for rude posts with swearing: they should be removed]

#1 Jafo: What I'd like to see as a 'solution' to 'uninformed comment' is to have an option to restrict who can post comment on one's works to 'peers' only.....in other words....if you are not a fellow skinner you can be excluded from commenting. Those who are interested in the 'layman's' opinion can leave the limitation unchecked...

Sounds like an excellent idea. Better a couple of valued comments than a dozen uninformed ones.

#37 by Solution design - 4/26/2004 6:25:10 AM I'm getting fed up with a small minority that seems to want to bring the maturity of the site down.

I agree with Adam(Solution Design) on this one. Although, I have never really faced such comments. No one is paying an artist to take this sort of abuse. It is unneccessary and uncalled for. It is just a nasty smear to the site, and I thought we were all tired of the flames. Eventually, its seems that artists may stop submitting works to the site if such abuse is tolerated.
Nah, I think if artists would just see the negative comments for what they are negative comments, it'd all be far less stressful. One should be able to properly discern the difference between a "flame" and a constructive criticism. ...

... If I submit something [like a wallpaper, pretty much all I *do* submit hehe...] and I'm confident in my submission, why would I care if some person comes along and slings around ungrounded negative comments? If I'm confident in my work, I don't care what kind of negative feedback I receive, because the only ones I pay attention to are that of the skinners themselves OR if someone wants something specific.

The only reason I think ungrounded comments should be removed is because it might give a bad impression on any newcomers to the site, or just a regular visitor. Comments containing slang, of course, should also be dealt with in the same manner. As forthe negative comment ITSELF, I don't mind any I just take a look at the source instead of letting them get to me.

..my point is, all of you skinners are consistently putting out good work, and ALL of you are still learning... try not to let what others say put a damper on you. If these "trolls" knew any better, they'd submit skins themselves..

PS, I''m in NO WAY condoning "flaming" or such behavior, I just take it differently, I suppose. I know you''re all very skilled, why don''t YOU know it as well?

....but, yes.. I agree, those kind of comments are just senseless and do no good, for anyone.

Lets face it, commenting on all the work is pretty cumbersome. We all get lazy and shorten our comments from time to time. I think Adam is right. Sometimes the short comments dont come across the way they are meant.I know I recently left a brief comment on somebodys work and it didnt go so hot. I didnt think I was being rude, I thought I was doing the right thing. I have realized that I was wrong and I tried to correct the matter. I am just not gonna comment anymore unless I have something valuable to add.

I have gotten a few emails and comments from different people supporting me regarding some negative comments I have recieved. I always look for the positive in a situation. I have found that for each Lover of poo there is 5 equally kind people. At this site there is about 500 kind people to 1 nasty *&@%$.

As hard as it is to overlook the bad comments they do get to you in some way, some how. I was prompted to start this thread after viewing some comments that were left on someones skin. I was outraged. I actually thought that I might attract the scum to myself in hopes they may single me out and give others a break. Heck, I got alot for them to pick on. I see now that it was pretty stupid. Admin has kept a good track of the ugliness but in time they will come back. When they do I will try my best not to feed. It is soooo hard though. Soooooo hard, so so hard. Hard hard hard!

Jafos idea sound pretty good. However it makes me feel good to hear someone say they really like a theme I made. Even if it a crappy skin its still good to know someone enjoyed it and you made them happy but for a brief moment. Even if that brief moment was the pleasure they got from giving you a good comment. Aaaah crap, Im starting to not make sense again. I know this when I cant possibly type as fast as my brain.

Oh and Mgiff, even though I completely understand your desire to be silent, I wish you wouldn't Its just a small form of terrorism and you staying silent only empowers him. With that said, I respect your decision to stay silent.
That was only because I didn't want to get on a rampage. I had started to dread reading my comments because of all this and it affected me. When I get on a roll, I GET ON A ROLL!, so I figured I could be quiet a while and let others voice their opinion. (Thanks though, there really are some good people here)

I think Jafo mentioned perhaps only letting other skinners/contributors post comments? That might a viable option. Although no doubt it must be gratifying to have lots of people oooh and aaah and one's work. And users can spot bugs or issues. Constructive criticism can be quite helpful, although perhaps fellow skinners can provide better insight or assistance when it comes to that. But people just crapping in the comment sections just because they can is another matter.
Geez I've followed this thread and something must of went flying right over my head 'cause if it had smacked me in the head I'd been able to figure out what's going on. MGiff took all her skins down? If the commentary is getting that offensive as to make a respectable skinner remove her skins, then I agree that Jafo's option is the only way to go. Not knowing anything about it, and it isn't my business anyway, I'll make no further comments.
Whoa, MGiff's skins are gone!? I musta missed something too.. shoot. Come back McGiff! Dang.
Its an authors right to take their skins down.I would hope it wasn't because of comments. If not every author, then almost every author has had negative, rude or both types of comments. As some admins have said in the past, if your going to post work on a site, grow thick skin. Thats authors with one download to over a million. Not many are exempt. The admins will remove the rude ones.

If all your comments are good and one person craps on you and it falls into the rude catagory, then have an admin look at it. If that person just gives you a negative comment, then look to if they are right. If they are not then forget it. Probably didn't like the color or something. Who knows.

There were only a few of the skin that I was proud of. I plan to start over fresh, trying a totally new style. I had laughed at some of the comments until a couple rang true, then decided it was time to do something different. Believe me, I have a thick skin, being a 911 dispatcher for 9 years doesn't make you weak . If I didn't have any doubts about my work I wouldn't have been so affected by some comments. Hopefully what I come up with in the future will be worth it.
