AltTabby doesn’t show up until I press (Alt+Tab) again on focused fullscreen apps

Hello,

I encountered a problem: when I use (Alt+Tab) to switch from a fullscreen app to another, AltTabby doesn’t show up until I press (Alt+Tab) again.

This only happens when I’m focusing on a fullscreen app, regardless of which one.

It works, but only after using the shortcut a second time while I’m in the fullscreen app.

In the next video, you can see what I described. The first time I use the Alt+Tab combination, the default Windows Alt+Tab UI appears. After pressing the combination again, the AltTabby UI shows up. (If I use AltTabby in a non‑fullscreen app, it appears on the first try.)

One known cause has AltTabby handing you the standard Windows switcher, and it is cheap to rule out. Open Task Manager, go to the Details view, and check whether more than one AltTabby64.exe is running.

Two copies is the signature Neil worked through in the 0.70 beta feedback thread. The workaround there was to open the AltTabby config, switch the mode between list and thumbnail, then switch back, and the user confirmed that cleared it without restarting AltTabby or rebooting.

I would not tell you this is your bug. Those reports had the switcher staying wrong until AltTabby was relaunched, not correcting itself on a second press out of a fullscreen app. If there is only one process, you are looking at something else.

The detail worth adding to your report either way is whether the fullscreen apps you tested were exclusive fullscreen or borderless windowed. The video shows the behaviour clearly but not which of the two, and that is the part that decides whether it reproduces on our side.

Hi Haalee,

Thank you for your awesome response. I noticed that more than one AltTabby64.exe process was running. I tried what you suggested (switching between list and thumbnail mode, then switching back), but nothing worked except killing the extra processes in Task Manager.

After ensuring only a single process was running, I tested again and I’m still experiencing the same issue.

I can confirm this only happens with exclusive fullscreen apps, not windowed ones. I tried all the different AltTabby modes, but the result was the same.

Hopefully this helps the amazing Stardock team fix it (if it’s a bug, hehe).

I am seeing the same behavior, but it's not just for full-screen apps. I'm also seeing it for different sizes of app windows.

I got all excited because there was an update from v0.8 to v0.81. However, when I hit Alt-Tab, it still shows the normal Windows Alt-Tab visual. It isn't until I click down on Tab a second time (while still holding down Alt from the initial Alt-Tab) that it then switches to Carousel view. This behavior also occurs in Thumbnail view. I haven't tried the other views. 😢
