I've had the same symptoms in the past, and I'd actually given up on having it work ever again for a while...then I found a tip somewhere about needing to Delete the entire default setup or something (it was a while ago so I can't recall exactly)...BUT, if you uninstall DX, backup any themes you wish to keep, then Delete the entire DesktopX program folder before you try re-installing, then you might get some joy. (sorry that's so vague!) This worked for me and it's worked fine since.
If not, maybe someone else will know exactly which bit needs zapping to solve this. I'm afraid I can't even remember where I found the tip now...it might be on these boards somewhere...if not, it might be in the stardock DesktopX newsgroup.
If all else fails, try e-mailing
[email protected] as they are usually very good at providing support quickly. (You do know this isn't an official stardock support forum don't you?...you're only likely to get peer support here most of the time)
