Since it's an IE specific problem, it sounds to me like a conflict between Windowblinds and a third party toolbar you may have installed. Do you have some search thingy or something not standard in your IE toolbar? If so, disable it (right click on your toolbar and uncheck it in the list) or uninstall it altogether and see if your problem persists.

I have Windowblinds and I have absolutely no problems with any programs. It sounds to me that you may have a conflict with other dll hacking programs or maybe Internet Explorer is corrupted. You shouldn't blame windowblinds for the problems on your end. If you truly want a clean install of windowblinds now, I would recommend a complete wipe of your hardrive, install your operating system, SP1 and the drivers, and then install object desktop. Leave all the other dll hacking stuff off your system. Also, I have heard of people having similar problems with the new service pack for XP. It's a beta. Don't install betas unless you are doing testing. If you did install it, then obviously testing has failed.

Maybe the following possibility is causing the problem (i did have it sometimes).

Did you have earlier IE running with WB just fine and did you set a specific skin to IE?

After that you maybe did this specific skin. After this IE will not run good....

Just a thought that came up in my mind. Maybe you can check it.

I personally would try several suggestions of "fixes" before I publically complained, A polite cry for help will be answered with a polite answer. As said many many pc's work fine with it...ruling out a bug in the program used and updated for years.

StyleXP isn't the problem here. I'm running StyleXP, WB4.2 and XP SP2. All is good. Apart from WB not skinning the toolbar icons anymore with SP2, but thats all.

I format and fresh install will do wonders for your system in these cases.

I have just got done runing a full virus check, Adwear check, and ran spywear programs. Now all IE is doing Is when I try to type any thing is that the title bar accross the top unloads and the rest of IE stays skined for a few seconds before IE crashes. The rest of the system stays skined no problems.

PROBLEM SOLVED!

When everything else in windows xp was being skined by WB But only IE was acting up I was right the problem had to be with IE.

So I went through every setting in IE. here is how I solved the problem

With IE on go to Tools then click internet options, then click Advanced, then scroll down to Enable Third-Party Extentions, and make sure that the box is un-checked. This action will require a restart. Restart the Computer and the problem is solved.

Now the question is if the action says that I need to check the box to enable third-party extentions why then do I need to un-check it to make it work? Go Figure.

Enable third party extensions is to allow BHO's (Browser Helper Objects) to attach themselves to IE. I have this function enabled and have no problems with WindowBlinds. But if your disabling allows WB to work with IE, that suggests that you may have a BHO installed that is conflicting in some fashion as I mentioned was one possibility in my previous post.

Check and see what BHO's you have installed. Look at Internet Options, Temporary Internet Files, Settings, View Objects.

Note: some BHO's are good and provide useful functions. Others can be notorious spyware search toolbars and related crapware which can be installed without your knowledge if your IE security settings are too lax.

I have eight files, three unknown files and a damaged file in this folder along with a Real networks file and one Microsoft file along with two Shockwave files. The first 4 files I have no clue what they are but the others a clearly marked. Will it be safe to them and then turn on the Enable Third-Party Extentions?

You might try the app available via the link I posted...direct link to the download page here: http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads/bhod/ and see if that tells you what the unknown BHO's are. This app also is supposed to be able to let you disable which ever BHO's you're not sure about so you can still use the one's you really want as long as they don't conflict with WB. If one file says it's damaged??? Maybe that's the one that's mucking things up.

Usually you can Delete that stuff without any problem, although whatever "functionality" was added might be gone. I'd also use the BHODemon app to make sure I didn't have some sneaky spyware thing that might be hard to . I'm guessing if you had some special toolbar installed on IE you'd know it. But maybe there could be something not showing up where I told you to look? I recently installed SnagIt (a really cool screen capture program, although a tad pricey) and it installed a BHO (so my antispyware monitoring app told me) and put an icon on my IE toolbar but dang if I see it in the place I told you to look. So I'd try the BHODemon to see if that helps you decide what you have and what to keep. Once you're sure whatever BHO's you have are what you really want and Delete the others, enable third party extensions and cross your fingers.

Anyway, it looks as if you've found the source of the problems you were having and it's not something that would be really obvious. Good catch on your part. Although it was IE related it wasn't really IE itself. Cool. Now at least you know you can use WB!

To Delete them....yes it should be...then you could try re-enabling the add-ons and see if they cause a lockup again....my guess is that they won't...

I have just d all the objects. and turned on enable third-party extentions rebooted guess what? It crashed. So... I went back and turned it off now everything works. I am truly stumped.

I got a question, style XP is a .dll hack right? What makes it so diffrend from liteSTEP ??

It's been a while since I tried LiteStep, but as I remember it, it's a replacement shell rather than a hack...ie it replaces Explorer as the core software controlling the desktop etc, but in a way with a documented and supported interface.

Check for nasty critters like viri. Style XP is a nono. Messing with the kernal is asking for things to break. Update or reinstall IE. I've been using Object Desktop for awhile now and its never broken anything....crucial that is. Just hang in there and be patient. Something will work out. >

LiteSTEP is a free-standing executable....replaces explorer.exe ....and is not an OS hack, but a simple program....no different than notepad.exe.

Anyone can kill the explorer process and run shell-less.....the clever ones just load an alternate such as LiteSTEP...

It would be very useful if we can determine which BHO is causing the problem.  Then we can try and repro it and see why it causes a problem.

I had StyleXP earlier running parallel to WB and had problems?After deistallation of SytleXp WB is running perfect.What OS do you have? If you run millenium I suggest to overwrite it with XP, because millenium is crashing system and not OS.

I have XP. All I know is that with Enable Third-Party Extentions on IE does not work. I have went into the settings and removed the objects that were there and with no objects and turned back on IE crashes.

I have XP. I have third party Extensions checked and IE doesn't crash here.

If you do install new video drivers make sure to uninstall the old ones first. I have discovered that not doing so will cause oddness in WB but nothing else including games. It is the way ATI recommends to update your drivers.
