Sad news this week...

We just found out recently that my 71 year old Mother has pancreatic cancer. Unfortunately it is located in an area of the pancreas that is difficult to treat. She has been ill since just before Thanksgiving and has hardly eatin anything since then. She's been in and out of the er from Nov. up until a week ago when doctors finally decided she should be hospitalized. They've run all kinds of tests and xrays and cat scans and biopsies. My Dad was with her yesterday when her doctor told her she would only have 6 to 12 months to live. I got there about about 3pm and the first thing out of my Mother's mouth was "Joe I'm going to die in 6 months" as she cried. My heart sank and I fought to keep it together. I'm very close to my mother and I don't think I'll ever lose that image of my mom telling me that with the fear and terror in her face. My brother came down and my sister will be here tomorrow. Anyway my mom is schedule for a pancreatic bypass surgery this coming Monday which is only being done to give her the 6 to 12 months.
It's just too soon to lose my Mom. It's hard to imagine life without her.

Sorry to hear about your Mother Jarget I do know what you are going through as my own Mother passed from cancer 8 years ago. It is a terrible thing to have to go through. To this day I still think of her and miss her Dearly. If at any time you need to talk about it you can write me an email if you need to. She had cancer for 2 years starting from her breast, then spread to the brain via the lymph nodes. I feel bad for you. You and your mother will be in my prayers.

My sincerest sympathies and heartfelt prayers go out to you and your family, Jarget. I went through a similar experience with my father not long ago and I can understand how you must be feeling. I know that sympathy and prayer are no compensation for the pain you feel, but I offer both anyway, and wish I could do more.

I'm so sorry, Joe. I lost my Mom 6 years March 1..The only thing I can tell you.. Is to spend every moment you can with her....And when it's time, Let her go surrounded with people she loves.

Do as China says ..... my Dad is in his last few days with us, and could slip away at any time.
But he is comfortable and peaceful, so I try to sit with him for a few hours each night .... he may or may not know I'm there but it's important he has one of us with him when the time comes.

the best gift you can give her now is to be by her side during her exit and try to make it easier for her, I see alot of death w/ my job (though statistically and on paper, I still "see" it)
71 years or 100 makes no diff, the pain, but be thankful for the 71 years and pray for a miracle if one does not come, then comfort her on her way out w/ love...
(my heart goes out to you, though I don't expect to handle my own moms exit when that day comes very well either)

I am so sorry to hear that. Please look into Hospice care in your area. They are wonderful. They focus on the Family as well as the ill person. They will come to you, no matter if you choose inpatient or home care. My prayers are with you and your family.

I know such loss, and even now am facing the near same as you with my Mother.

Yet I find great strength and courage through my Faith in Christ Jesus in whom I pray, for your time of great need.

So sorry to hear about your Mothers condition and prognosis.

I lost my Mother due to complications resulting from Lung Cancer surgery in 1991. She was only 51yrs. old and did not deserve her fate. All I can say is spend as much time with her as you possibly can and cherish every moment.

I would also recommend the hospice for you and your mother jarget. They are so helpful and so compassionate. The process of passing from this world is something everyone will undertake at some time. It's good to have experts to help maintain the dignity and courage we would all like to experience at such a time.

You have my heartfelt condolences and I also second the advice, be with her as much as you can.

(((HUGS))) I'm sorry. I know it's really hard. Don't be afraid to show your feelings when you are with her. Lots of people try to seem strong, but if you need to cry and hold it in it might seem like something else. Anyway, she may get some relief crying along with you. If you hide your feelings, she may feel like she should too. Treasure these last moments with her, keep them open and free and honest. At least that's what seemed right with my mom.

Sorry to hear of your troubles J. I know exactly how you feel. In Dec. I lost 4 very close family members myself. I'm still in shock over what happened to me. However, give yourself time, give your Mom all you can, and be with her as much as possible. Sometimes though, I really wonder more about those that they temporarily leave behind. Cope as best as you can.
