I agree with BS. Although Microsoft is well within their rights in this issue, it's a little stupid of them to pursue it.

Reminds me of a site a few years ago called something like "Brenda's Shack", and it was basically the personnal web site of a girl called Brenda.  She could have called the site Brenda's Home, or Brenda's Hideout or whatever. As far as I know "shack" is a common English word.  But apparently the lawyers over at Radio Shack thought that they owned anything with the word "shack", and the worse is that the judges agreed. The girl had to change her web site name.
Oh, and by the way, she didn't even have a domain name, Brenda's Shack was just the title that was written at the top of her page.

Anyway, copyright and trademark protection goes too far sometimes. But I guess those expensive lawyers got to eran a living, right?

Well...the sharks in suits just screwed over the Australian Ugg boot companies.

Some Yank company decided to register the name...even though it was a generic term originating in Oz 46 years ago.

Their intention is to give the Chinese more stuff to make with slave labour rates while lining their own fat pockets with the filthy lucre.

The a-holes even sued the dictionary for not retrospectively referring to the company that STOLE the name.

Makes you puke.

What if your name was Micheal and you're a software designer? MichealSoft

Should start a raincoat company called 'Apparel Macintosh'...

macrobaye - your mac rants or threads pertaining to macs or you mentioning macs is really begining to piss me off.

Kona-

1. I could care less.

2. This thread has nothing to do with Apple. I made a comment about Fuzzy's comment. I've got a right to do that. He sort-of bashed Apple, and I hate when people do that. So I commented back. Period.

3. The first rule of Fight Club is, you do not talk about Fight Club.

er...uh...just thought I'd throw that in...satirically.

I'm sure if you were named something like Steve Macintosh and wanted to do that, Apple wouldn't care. I mean, Macintosh isn't something Apple made up, it's a type of apple...

macrobaye - who cares if someone bashes Macs? on a site called WINcustomize they deserve to be flamed.
If you want to discuss how great Macs are, then go to a Mac site. If you want to discuss how great Linux is, then go to a Linux site. This is a Windows site which means the majority of the people here prefer Windows. If you come here bashing Windows or saying your OS is somehow magically superior, then you are going to get flamed.

Did you see his work?
Well deserved Apprenticeship.

And Macrobaye: you are so wrong. I guess you didn't hear the stories of Apple going after everything that had the word "Aqua" in it, even if it had nothing to do with the look of OSX. Next thing we'll know they'll ask the zoos to rename the animals to something else than jaguar. Or hey, maybe they'll get the car sompany to change its name...

Apple wouldn't bother demanding that zoos change the name of jaguars to something else! They'll be focusing on getting the name of panthers changed!

Kona...just to clear things a little...macrobaye's Apprenticeship is for his works/contributions....not necessarily his preoccupation with avidly defending all things Apple [which would be nice if it were moderated a little]....

macrobaye....Apple is Numero Uno when it comes to fiercely protecting its name, logo, etc....surely exemplified by the demise of YZdock, and a number of instances from years earlier...

BTW....'macintosh' is English for 'raincoat'....

Take a look at my posts in this thread. I'll give you a minute or two...(quietly whistles)....ok then... You'll see that my initial comment was pertaining to Fuzzy's anti-mac comment...I know it was just a joke, and my comment about it wasn't in anger at all. I corrected him, or gave my opinion, whatever. So don't go calling me anti-PC or whatever, because I'm not. I just hate it when people make stupid derrogatory comments about macs when they havent used one since the AppleII or the original iMac.

funny thing is macrobaye is a apprentice. >

Low blow there Kona. Who cares if I'm a mac user or if I don't like when people bash macs? You don't become an apprentice for saying "WinCustomize is my FAAAAAVORITE site," or "I LOOOOOVVEEE Microsoft Windows, and ALLLLL the admins" You get it for your contibutions to both the skins sections and the message boards.

Apple is Numero Uno when it comes to fiercely protecting its name, logo, etc

Well when companies try to make things that Apple has patented for the mac, such as the dock, Apple, rightfully, get's Lawyer-full on their butts...remember the iPC? and emachines little all-in-one box that looked like a bigger, more colorful '84 Macintosh?

First off Microsoft admitted to going "overboard". And if you read the article Macrobaye, you'd know by law they need to protect their trademarks.

But you sit here writing crap like "Microsoft....the bully of the software world, shaking kids down for their lunch money all the time...it's a sick, sad world..." Give me a break. Why are you a member of a site that deals only in Windows software. I've seen your work and you have talent. Why don't you stick to doing art and stay away from "journalism". I think we'd all be better for it, though i can only speak for myself.

Actually Apple is getting sued by the Beatles (yet again) for violating trademarks... talk about hypocrits. They knew they weren't allowed to get into music distribution yet they chose to ignore their end of the deal.

your right. but they can also get exiled for starting flame wars.
I didn't start this flame war. AND it takes two to tango, if you know what I mean. I'm not the only one arguing a point.

But you sit here writing crap like "Microsoft....the bully of the software world, shaking kids down for their lunch money all the time...it's a sick, sad world..." Give me a break.

That was a joke, and most people would take it lightly...and it IS known that if people were to take this overboard and seriously, then they know that it's true.

When people get mad about jokes, theres a good chance that they believe, but won't admit it, that the joke is somewhat valid. So don't be so harsh on something meant to be just a joke.
/me decides not to tango anymore.

not because i'll lose or win but because argueing is a waste of time.

Poop is a funny word.

Oh, I'm sorry. Was that off-topic? *cough*
Reply #48 Top
Hey macrobaye, if I can make a suggestion...make use of the emoticons when you're joking. It might help us to better understand your meaning.

Just a suggestion

No sorry it wasn't written as a joke - what it was, was a typical cheap shot at Microsoft. Even your thread title was misleading. So don't try to make it seem different then it was and don't treat me like i'm some daft bastard who can't take a joke.

If Microsoft is irked that someone else has a like-sounding domain name then they should have been a little more intelligent, pro-active and registered ALL forms of the "microsoft.com" domain name.

What do you think google.com thinks of phroogle.com?
